Simone Biles, a 2013 world all-around gymnastics champion and 2013 national champion, will be making a guest appearance at the Meadow Lands Gymnastic Training Center Sunday.

Biles, who won gold in the all-around & floor exercise, will spend 45 minutes at the gymnastic center, 7:30-8:15 p.m., giving a speech, taking questions then signing autographs. Biles will not be doing any of her practice routines or performances.

The event is open to the public at no charge.

“This is the first time we have had anyone like this here,” said Karen Clark, part owner and coach at the gymnastics center. “The girls are excited.”

Biles’ visit is the result of the gymnastic center’s fundraising efforts to sell tickets for the United States Gymnastics Championships, which will be held Aug. 21-24 at Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh. The group came in fourth with 200 tickets sold, making it eligible for a visit by a U.S. team member. They got Biles.

“The fundraising event was held among the clubs in Western Pennsylvania.” Clark said.

“We’ve invited everyone in the class programs and on the competitive team. There will be no individual photos allowed, but we hope to get a group photo with the girls.”

At the 2013 world championships in Antwerp, Belgium, Biles won a a gold medal in floor exercise, a silver in the vault, a bronze in the balance beam and finished fourth in the uneven bars. She is the AT&T American Cup silver medalist

The 17-year-old Biles is recovering from a shoulder injury but is expected to compete in the U.S. championships in Pittsburgh.
