Baseball: Dennis shutout gains split for Cal

Sophomore Jack Dennis tossed a two-hit, complete-game shutout as California University split a doubleheader at Mercyhurst in PSAC West Division play, falling 6-4 in the opener before winning 4-0 in the second game.

The Vulcans are 19-14 overall, including 7-9 in the conference. They have won at least one road game against the Lakers in three of the last four years. Mercyhurst is 19-19 overall and 11-5 in the conference.

Mercyhurst scored all six runs of the opener in the first inning. Hank Morrison had a three-run homer and Giancarlo Saia added a double and drove in two runs.

In the second game, Mick Fennell had two singles, a double and an RBI, and Derrik Zeroiski had a double, an RBI and two stolen bases for Cal.
