H.S. Baseball: Beth-Center upsets Char-Houston

Seth Hvizda hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth during a six-run rally as Beth-Center knocked Chartiers-Houston out of first place in Section 2-AA with a 14-9 victory Friday night.

Winning pitcher Lucas Zellie also doubled for the Bulldogs (3-7, 4-10), who were tied with the Bucs (7-2, 9-2) at 8-8 entering the bottom of the sixth.

Kaleb Susko and Tyler Day doubled for Char-Houston, while Jordan Davis took the loss.

• Logan Bowman pitched a five-inning shutout to lead Jefferson-Morgan past West Greene, 11-0, in Section 1-A.

Bowman struck out five batters and went 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs batted in. Austin Clark went 3-for-4 with three RBI for the Rockets (3-4, 3-8). West Greene (1-6, 4-7) had one extra base hit from Dalton Wildman, who also earned the loss for the Pioneers.

The victory is the 325th of John Curtis’ 19-year coaching career and keeps Jefferson-Morgan alive in the WPIAL playoff chase.

Carmichaels pulled even with Jefferson-Morgan in the Section 2-A standings with a 14-1 five-inning victory Friday over West Greene.

Winning pitcher Erica Burns threw a one-hitter and struck out 11, and collected three hits, including a double for the Mikes (9-2, 11-3).

Katie Mays also had three hits, including a pair of doubles, while Emmay Lowry and Natalie McNett had a two-base hit each.

Randalyn Filby had the lone hit for West Greene (5-6, 6-9), while Sage Vliet took the loss.

Allison Hurley had six goals and eight assists to lead Peters Township to a 19-11 Division I, Section I victory over Oakland Catholic.

Gina Vilsack added seven goals and three assists for the Indians (6-2, 9-3), while Katie Kush had four goals for Oakland Catholic.
