FLORENCE, Ky. – The Washington Wild Things drafted three players, including two pitchers, Tuesday at the conclusion of the Frontier League’s two-day open tryout.

With the fourth pick in the first round, the Wild Things selected right-hander Joey Perrotta out of Lynn University, an NCAA Division II school in Boca Raton, Fla.

Perrotta had a 5-5 record with a 3.61 ERA as a senior last year. After transferring from a junior college, Perrotta was 3-2, 3.78 with three saves in 2012, when Lynn was 35-15 and advanced to the NCAA tournament.

In the second round, Washington selected another right-handed pitcher, Devin Malone from Louisiana-Monroe. As a senior in 2013, Malone was 0-1 with a 5.94 ERA in 13 games (one start) for the Warhawks. He struck out 15 in 16 2/3 innings but also issued 16 walks.

In the third round, Washington chose Vinicius De Melo, a catcher who last week concluded his collegiate career with Blue Mountain College, an NAIA school in Mississippi. A native of Brazil, De Melo batted .297 this spring in 45 games. He hit two home runs and drove in 17. As a junior, De Melo batted .288.

The Frontier League Greys, the league’s travel team, selected left-handed pitcher Spencer Medick out of Elon University with the first overall pick. Medick had a 7-7 record with a 4.80 ERA as a senior last spring for Elon.

Jordan Krauss, a right-handed pitcher who played at Wheeling Jesuit, was drafted 11th overall by the Lake Erie Crushers.

The Wild Things begin spring training Thursday in preparation for their 13th Frontier League season, which begins May 15 at Florence.
