Late surge not enough as Wild Things fall

1 min read

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – Schaumburg erupted for five runs in the fourth inning and the Wild Things’ failed to complete a late comeback as the Boomers defeated Washington, 5-4, in a Frontier League game Friday night.

Schaumburg (42-30) did not take long to get to Marks. Tony Delmonico hit a lead-off double and was knocked in by Ty Nelson. Marks walked a batter, Michael Valadez followed with a two-run single and Alexi Colon capped the inning with a two-run single as the Boomers took a 5-0 lead.

The Wild Things (45-27) failed to capitalize on multi-hit performances by William Beckwith and Carter Bell as the team left 11 runners on base. They broke Schamburg pitcher Eddie Cody’s shutout when Bell’s one-out single scored Scott Kalamar from second base, but back-to-back outs ended the inning and stranded two runners.

Bell hit a two-run homer in the ninth inning and Danny Poma drove in Garrett Rau, who reached first on a walk, to draw the Wild Things to within one.

Schaumburg reliever Dexter Price recorded two outs to earn the save as the Boomers avoided a series sweep.
