Wrestling roundup: J-M has 2 champions at Gateway
Two Jefferson-Morgan wrestlers – Gavin Teasdale and Brendan Howard – captured their weight class in the Eastern Area Tournament at Gateway High School.
Teasdale, a freshman, won by 25-8 technical fall over Job Chishko of Penn Trafford in the 106-pound finals. Teasdale was seeded No. 2 to Chishko, the brother of Solomon Chishko, a two-time state champion at Canon-McMillan. Teasdale had two pins and two technical falls in winning the title.
Howard won an 8-5 decision over Zack Hartman of Belle Vernon in the 120 finals. Howard was the top seed.
Burgettstown’s Austin McDermitt decisioned Luke Landefeld of North Allegheny 7-2 at 126 pounds.
Canon-McMillan had two gold medalists and finished second to the host team in the Cumberland Valley Invitational.
Logan Macri won the 106-pound weight class and Tommy James was first at 182. Matt Oblock (132) and Micah Kusturis (145) each took second place. Dimitri Pihiou (113) took third and Ellis Popiolkowski (126) and Brendan Furman (Hvy) each finished fourth. Tim Hritsko (120) was sixth.
