J-M’s Henneman scores 1,000th point
JEFFERSON – Rece Henneman scored 17 points during a 28-11 fourth quarter run by Jefferson-Morgan as the Rockets broke open a close game to pull away from Beth-Center, 61-44, in a non-section high school boys basketball game Monday night.
Henneman, who finished with 34 points, went over the 1,000-point mark in the fourth quarter, finishing the night with 1,003 in his career.
Austin Clark added 15 points for the Rockets (3-0) in a game that was tied at 33-33 after three quarters.
Brody McDonnell had 14 points and Ryan Beyer added 12 for Beth-Center (1-2).
Bentworth 62, Mapletown 27: Angelo Rios-Lopez scored 16 of his game-high 21 points during a 29-3 third-quarter run to lead Bentworth to a 62-27 non-section win over Mapletown.
Bentworth (2-0) led just 20-17 at the half. Damon Petrola-Bakos added 14 points and Nick Malinosky 10 for the Bearcats.
Matt Hein had 15 points to lead Mapletown (0-3).
Bishop Canevin 82, Trinity 72: Mitchell King had 17 points and Bishop Canevin held off Trinity, 82-72, in a non-section game.
Reed Relosky had 15 points, Walker Barnes 12 and John Weldon 11 for the Crusaders (3-0), who led 51-21 at the half.
Trinity (1-2), outscored Bishop Canevin, 51-31 in the second half. Joe Koroly had 17 points, Beau Baldwin 13 and Nick Moretti 10 for the Hillers.
Ringgold 61, Charleroi 48: George Martin and Nico Law combined for 44 points as Ringgold defeated Charleroi, 61-48, in a non-section game.
Martin, who scored a game-high 24 points, made two three-point field goals for the Rams (2-1), and Law added 20 points. Ringgold led by five points at halftime before holding the Cougars (0-3) to 24 second-half points.
John Arnold led Charleroi with 17 points.
Quaker Valley 92, Fort Cherry 29: Quaker Valley had four double-digit scorers and built a 40-point halftime lead on its way to a 92-29 victory over Fort Cherry in a non-section game Monday night.
Clay Noyes scored a game-high 14 points, while Coltrane Washington and David Oliver added 12 points each for the Quakers (3-0). Amos Luptak also scored 11 points for Quaker Valley, who led 57-17 at halftime.
The Rangers (0-3) were led by Alex Babirad’s 10 points.
Girls basketball
Trinity 70, Serra Catholic 12: Mary Dunn had 19 points and 13 rebounds as Trinity remained undefeated with a 70-12 non-section victory over Serra Catholic.
Sierra Kotchman added 15 points and eight assists for the Hillers (3-0), who led 43-7 at the half.
Gia Husnick led Serra (0-3) with four points.
Charleroi 50, South Allegheny 25: Charleroi made 24 of 38 free throw attempts, compared to 1 of 3 for South Allegheny as the Cougars won 50-25 in a non-section game.
Kaitlyn Riley had 13 points and Sierra Shorts 12 for the Cougars (3-0), who won despite both teams having 12 field goals.
Bailey Meyers scored five points to lead South Allegheny (0-3).
Sewickley Academy 56, Avella 12: Maddy Casale’s 18 points helped Sewickley Academy to a 56-15 over Avella in a non-section game.
Gracie Guerin and Olivia Ryder added 10 points each for Sewickley Academy (3-0), which opend the game with a 25-5 run.
Grace Lengauer led Avella (1-2) with six points.
McGuffey 75, West Mifflin 37: Sammie Weiss scored a game-high 26 points and Rachel Czulewicz added 14 as McGuffey defeated West Mifflin, 675-37, in a non-section game Monday night.
Weiss made 11 field goals and was 4 for 4 from the free throw line. She also had six steals for the Highlanders (3-0). Czulewicz hit two three-point shots, while Katie Demi scored seven points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Carae Wagner added 12 points.
The Titans (1-2) were led by Miranda Ferguson, who scored a team-high 13 points.
Hundred, W.Va. 46, West Greene 20: Emily Rine and Paige Shriver combined for 27 points as Hundred defeated West Greene, 46-20, in a non-sectino game Monday night.
Rine had a game-high 14 points, while Shriver added 13 for Hundred (1-0). Rachel Phillips also scored 12 points. Hundred built a 22-10 lead at halftime behind the trio,
The Pioneers (0-3) were led by Marissa Rode, who scored a team-high 8 points.
Jefferson-Morgan 50, Carmichaels 41: Junior Kayla Yorko led Jefferson-Morgan with 21 points and the Rockets outscored Carmichaels by nine points in route to a 50-41 non-section win.
The two teams were tied 23-23 at halftime before J-M (3-0) grabbed a six-point lead following the third quarter. Yorko led the Rockets with four three-point field goals, but her counterrpart, Mikes senior guard Carolina Cree, made five three-pointers and finished with a game-high 25 points as Carmichaels dropped to 1-2 overall.
Bentworth 48, Springdale 18: Bentworth held Springdale to 11 first-half points and held on for a 48-18 non-section win.
Junior Heather Chester scored a team-high 14 points for the Bearcats (2-1), and senior Reilly Skerbetz added 13. Bentworth led 27-11 at halftime before holding Springdale (0-3) to seven points in the second half.
Rachel McKaveney and Jillian Henley scored 17 of the Dynamos’ 18 points.
Canon-McMillan 69, John Marshall W.Va. 61: Senior Danielle Parker scored 29 points and junior Rebecca Turney added 19 as Canon-McMillan defeated John Marshall, 69-61, in a non-section game.
Parker was perfect from the free throw line on five attempts and made 12 field goals, while Turney, a 6-3 center, was dominant for the big Macs (2-1). Cheyenne Trest also added 12 points.
Torie Derrow scored a game-high 30 points for John Marshall.
California 50, Frazier 41: Three players reached double figures and Cal held Frazier to just five fourth-quarter points as the Trojans defeated the Commodores, 50-41.
Senior Lyndsey Huhn and freshman Bailey Vig scored a team-high 14 points, while sophomore Jenna Miller added 10 points for the Trojans(2-1), who are playing without sophomroe forward Kylie Huffman. Cal shot 16 of 20 from the free throw line.
Cassidy Guiser and Emily Marshall both scored 10 points for Frazier (0-1).
