Parker’s 20 points lift Big Macs to section win

A strong second half sent Canon-McMillan to a 58-42 victory over Upper St. Clair in a Section 4-AAAA game Thursday night.

Danielle Parker scored 20 points for the Big Macs (1-0, 3-1), who outscored USC 34-13 in the second half after tailing by five through 15 minutes. Cheyenne Trest added 15 points and Rebecca Turney 10.

C-M made 10 of 15 free throws and sank four three-pointers.

Ally Steve and Rachel Mazzie paced USC (0-1, 1-2) with 12 points apiece.

Trinity 65, Keystone Oaks 22: Sierra Kotchman poured in 22 points, including six baskets from three-point range, to help Trinity run past Keystone Oaks, 65-22, in a Section 5-AAA game.

Mary Dunn scored 20 points for the Hillers (1-0, 4-0), who led 29-10 at halftime.

Maryah Agurs scored seven points for KO (0-1, 0-4)

Washington 53, Waynesburg 38: Tajah Gordon scored 19 points and Washington jumped out to a quick lead to cruise to a 53-38 win over in a Section 4-AA game.

Washington, which outrebounded Waynesburg 48-30, moved to 2-4 and 1-0 in the section.

Celine Monica scored 14 points and Kirsten Garber 13 for Waynesburg (0-1, 1-2).

Frazier 54, Bentworth 35: Hannah Kline scored 12 points to help Frazier down Bentworth, 54-35 in a Section 4-AA game.

Jamie Muccioli added 10 points for the Commodores (1-0, 1-1), who led 27-16 at halftime over the host Bearcats.

Heather Chester paced Bentworth (0-1, 2-2) with 12 points.

Charleroi 47, Beth-Center 39: Freshman Sierra Short scored a game-high 31 points and Charleroi held Beth-Center scoreless in the second quarter in route to a 47-39 victory in a Section 4-AA game.

Short, a 5-7 guard, grabbed 20 rebounds and made 13 free throws for the Cougars (1-0, 3-0), who led 31-9 at halftime. Though Charleroi only scored two points in the third quarter, it outscored the Bulldogs in fourth to secure the win.

Beth-Center (0-1, 1-1) was led by three double-digit scorers: Kinlee Whited (15 points), Anna Bartman (11) and Ally Trippy (11).

Belle Vernon 43, Ringgold 23: Ringgold was held to three second-half points and Belle Vernon senior Kaitlyn Slagus scored a game-high 12 points as the Leopards defeated the Rams, 43-23, in a Section 4-AAA game.

The Rams (0-1, 1-3) trailed by only three points at the half, but were outscored 20-3 in the final 16 minutes. Slagus, a Bucknell recruit, also grabbed 13 rebounds. Ringgold was led by Bailey Cooper’s 10 points.

Chartiers-Houston 58, Steel Valley 28: Chartiers-Houston held Steel Valley to 12 points through three quarters and had three double-digit scorers on its way to a 58-29 win in a Section 3-AA game.

Senior Jalyn Myers scored a game-high 18 points for the Bucs (1-0, 2-1). Freshman Alexa Williamson added 17 points and sophomore Jala Youngblood chipped in 10 for C-H, which led 26-9 at halftime. Steel Valley (0-1, 0-4) relied on the scoring of Cayley Labishak, who finished with 10 points.

Fort Cherry 47, West Greene 8: Fort Cherry’s defense only allowed four first-half points and sophomore forward Hannah Greene scored a game-high 27 points as the Rangers defeated West Greene, 47-8, in a Section 3-A game.

Senior forward Tina Bellhy added 11 points and grabbed 12 assists for Fort Cherry (1-0, 1-2), which led by 22 points through the first 16 minutes.

Sophomore Brittany Bonnema had five points for West Greene (0-1, 0-5).

Jefferson-Morgan 45, Monessen 29: Jefferson-Morgan did not allow a point through the first eight minutes and sank five threes to defeat Monessen, 45-29, in a Section 3-A game.

Junior Kayla Yorko scored a game-high 14 points, including four three-pointers, and junior Ally Bogden added 11 for the unbeaten Rockets (1-0, 4-0). J-M led by 11 points at halftime before pulling away in the second half.

Teraee Bradford had 12 points for the Greyhounds (0-1, 1-2).

Chartiers Valley 39, South Fayette 31: Chartiers Valley did not allow a point in the second quarter and held off South Fayette for a 39-31 win in Section 5-AAA.

Melissa Rickens led the Colts (1-0, 2-2) with 17 points and Alexa Golden had 16 points. Emily Anderson had 8 for the Lions (0-1, 3-1).
