Boys basketball roundup: PT’s Valentic scores 30 in Orlando win
The Peters Township boys team had to go all the way to Orlando Fla., to find it, but the Indians regained their shooting touch.
Peters Township broke out of a collective scoring funk during the second half of a 67-59 victory over Anchorage Christian in the KSA Classic.
It was the first time PT (3-3) has scored 60 points in a game.
Nick Valentic scored 24 of his game-high 30 points during the second half, when Peters Township turned a 22-22 halftime tie into a double-digit lead. Tim Swoope followed with 17 points for the Indians, who pulled away to a 45-35 lead after three quarters.
Anchorage Christian, which had a 24-3 record last season, received 25 points from Levi Auble and 10 from Bobby Wilson.
Peters Township will play Homewood (Ala.) today.
Saltfleet 51, Canon-McMillan 35: Saltfleet School of Ontario, Canada, defeated Canon-McMillan 51-35 at the KSA Classic in Orlando. The loss drops C-M’s record to 2-2. No game details were available.
Jefferson-Morgan 64, McGuffey 51: Rece Henneman had another big game and Jefferson-Morgan ended a two-game losing streak by pulling away in the second half and defeating visiting McGuffey 64-51 in a non-section game.
Jefferson-Morgan (4-2) led 36-29 at halftime and secured the win by outscoring the Highlanders 19-13 over the game’s final eight minutes.
Henneman made 12 field goals, including three from three-point range. J-M had three players in double figures as Christian Randolph scored 13 points and Dylan Davis had 12.
Shaun Sanders matched Henneman for game scoring honors with 28 points for McGuffey (2-3). Damian McCloskey followed with 12 points.
Frazier 51, Beth-Center 39: Josh Cox scored 16 points and visiting Frazier rode a big second quarter to a 51-39 victory over Beth-Center in Section 4-AA.
Beth-Center (0-2, 3-4) led 14-9 after one quarter, but Frazier outscored the Bulldogs 23-9 in the second quarter to take a 32-23 lead.
Alvin Ross scored 11 points for Frazier (2-1, 3-2), who outscored B-C at the free-throw line 14-4.
Beth-Center’s Brady McDonnell scored 16 points, which included five three-point field goals.
California 63, Geibel 36: Kass Taylor and Tray Matthews combined for 43 points to spark California to a 63-36 victory over Geibel in Section 3-A.
The win keep California undefeated in Section 3-A with a 3-0 mark. The Trojans are 6-1 overall.
Taylor led Cal with 22 points, which included four three-pointers. Matthews scored 21 points, all coming in the first half when the Trojans built a 45-20 lead.
James Ewing led Geibel (2-1, 4-2) with 12 points. The loss snapped the Gators’ three-game winning streak.
