Bergman wins decision

Washington heavyweight Jason Bergman won a unanimous decision over veteran Robert Hawkins late Saturday night at Wheeling Island Resort and Casino in his first fight since losing the NABA U.S. Heavyweight championship in July.

Bergman (24-11-2) knocked Hawkins (23-23) down in the second round and easily went on to win for the 15th time in his last 17 fights.

The victory sets Bergman up for an opportunity to fight for the now vacant NABA U.S. Heavyweight championship in Morgantown, W.Va. in February against a yet to be determined opponent.

Bergman lost the title via a second-round knockout at the hands of Akhror Muralimov at The Meadows Racetrack and Casino in July. Muralimov has since vacated the belt.
