Maryland passed another big test as it prepares for its first season in the rugged Big Ten.

Jake Layman had 21 points and 11 rebounds and the No. 17 Terrapins beat Oklahoma State 73-64 Sunday to improve to 11-1. They handed the Cowboys their fifth loss in 198 nonconference home games dating to 1987.

“It’s big for the team to get that first real road win in a tough environment, especially the younger guys because this is what we’ll see in conference play,” Layman said.

Maryland, 17-15 last season, connected on just five of its first 20 shots, but was 7 of 8 down the stretch in the opening half to take a 32-27 lead. The Terps opened the second half with a 15-3 run to build a 17-point lead.

“The last 5 minutes of the first half and the opening minutes of the second half are about as well as we’ve played this year,” Maryland coach Mark Turgeon said.

Southern Cal 75, Boston College 71: Elijah Stewart scored 22 points and Nikola Jovanovic had 16 with nine rebounds to help Southern California beat Boston College 75-71.

Virginia 76, Harvard 27: Mike Tobey scored 15 points in the first half and No. 6 Virginia held Harvard to one field goal before the break in a 76-27 romp.

Hartford 82, Forida International 69: Yolonzo Moore II had 19 points, five assists and four steals to help Hartford roll to an 82-69 victory over Florida International.

Radford 74, Cornell 61: Rashun Davis scored 19 points on 6-for-9 shooting to lead Radford to a 74-61 come-from-behind win over Cornell.

Louisville player suspended: Louisville junior forward Montrezl Harrell was suspended for one game by the Atlantic Coast Conference on Sunday for a flagrant 2 foul and ejection Saturday in the Cardinals’ 76-67 victory at Western Kentucky.

Harrell, a preseason All-America first-team selection, must sit out the No. 4 Cardinals’ game Tuesday night against Cal State Northridge, and will be eligible to return for Saturday’s rivalry game against top-ranked Kentucky.

He was ejected with 38 seconds remaining in the first half after getting up from a loose ball scramble and throwing an elbow during a scuffle.
