Briefs: Waynesburg wins PAC title
Waynesburg University won three individual titles and rode those first-place finishes to its fourth Presidents’ Athletic Conference wrestling championship in the past five years, edging host Thiel, 108-93.5 Friday night.
Jake Vitolo (141), Luke Lohr (149) and Greg Kumer (Hvy) all won their respective weight classes for the Yellow Jackets.
Washington & Jefferson College finished third despite having four individual champions: Jacob Spearman (125), Josh Etzel (157), Nick Carr (165) and David Dibenedetto (184). Dibenedetto was awarded the title after all three wrestlers at the 184-pound weight class went 1-1 and he came out on top via tiebreaking procedures.
Pittsburgh coach Paul Chryst has hired NFL veteran John Settle as the program’s running backs coach.
Settle spent four seasons with the Atlanta Falcons from 1987-90 and went to the 1988 Pro Bowl after running for 1,024 yards and seven touchdowns.
The 48-year-old Settle got into coaching in 1994 and worked alongside Chryst as assistants at Wisconsin from 2006-10. Settle served as running backs coach for the NFL’s Carolina Panthers in 2011-12 and filled the same capacity for the Cleveland Browns last fall.
Chryst also announced Brooks Bollinger has left the staff to focus on “non-coaching” opportunities. Chryst will add quarterbacks coach into his normal duties.
