O-R All-District Baseball Team
Senior, Pitcher/First Base
A no-hitter, WPIAL Class A Pitcher of the Year, first-team all-state selection and a Class A WPIAL title. Luko’s senior year was a dominant one. After taking over as the Trojans’ No. 1 starter, Luko went a perfect 10-0 with 59.1 innings pitched, 70 strikeouts, two walks and a 0.82 ERA.
Junior, Outfielder
A power-hitting left-handed hitter with a strong throwing arm and speed on the base paths, Beach was exceptional for the Big Macs in right field. He batted .485 with 32 hits, five doubles, eight triples and four home runs. His 35 RBI were a team-high and as C-M’s No. 3 hitter, Beach scored 18 times.
Junior, Catcher
Besides catching one of the WPIAL’s top pitchers, Blasinsky was a threat as the Mikes’ No. 3 hitter in the batting order. Blasinsky had a .424/.521/.559 line with 26 RBI, six extra-base hits, 22 runs and struck out just six times in 71 plate appearances.
Sophomore, Shortstop
Conte batted .507 with 26 RBI, 14 stolen bases, an on-base percentage of .621 and just four strikeouts. He committed only three errors in 21 games as a key cog in the Trojans’ outstanding infield.
Junior, Outfielder
The Indians’ starting center fielder led the team with a .439 average and 25 hits while contributing three home runs, 21 RBI and 14 runs. The left-handed hitter also committed just one error in 20 games for PT.
Senior, Pitcher
An Alderson Broaddus recruit, Lawless lived up to his reputation as an innings eater and improved on his numbers from a stellar junior season. The 6-4 hard-throwing righty tossed 67 1/3 innings while striking out 90 and walking 33. He finished the spring with a 9-2 record, including a complete-game victory in the first round of the PIAA Class A playoffs.
Senior, Outfielder
A Triple Crown candidate in the WPIAL for the first half of the season, Piechnick was dominant this spring. The righty led the team in batting average (.522), runs (36), hits (35), doubles (6), home runs (7) and walks (12). The Rider University recruit drove in 26 runs and added four triples. On defense, his rocket arm in center field led to seven outfield assists, including three in the WPIAL playoffs.
Junior, Outfielder
Previsky batted .450 with 23 RBI, 31 runs, five triples, six doubles and a team-high 16 stolen bases. Maybe the fastest player in the WPIAL, Previsky ran an event-best 6.50 60-yard dash at the WPIAL Baseball Coaches Association Showcase.
Junior, Pitcher/Outfielder
Spina was the Prexies’ workhorse with a 7-2 record on the mound. The crafty left-handed pitcher finished with a 1.35 ERA and was a fixture atop Wash High’s lineup. The speedy right-handed hitter batted .407 with one home run and 14 RBI.
Junior, Pitcher
Trainor was nothing short of exceptional this spring with a 6-2 record in 45 innings. His two losses came in one-run games against Mt. Lebanon and Bethel Park. The righty finished the spring with a 2.40 ERA, 29 strikeouts and 11 walks. He pitched a complete game in the first round of the WPIAL Class AAAA Playoffs to extend C-M’s season.
Senior, Shortstop
A Salem International University recruit (Division II), Cole led the Mikes in several offensive categories as the team’s cleanup hitter. He led Carmichaels with a .439 batting average, 25 hits and 31 RBI. Ten of his 25 hits went for extra bases and he struck out just seven times in 69 plate appearances.
Senior, Catcher
The Trojans’ leadoff hitter and team leader, Columbus had a breakout season for the WPIAL Class A champs with a .460 batting average, 22 RBI, 26 runs and a .588 on-base percentage. Columbus also drew 12 walks and allowed just one passed ball in 21 games.
Junior, Pitcher
Also a standout in football and basketball, Ferrari’s pitching led the Bucs back to the WPIAL Class AA playoffs. He tossed 44 2/3 innings with 35 strikeouts and a 1.58 ERA.
Senior, Outfielder/Infielder/Pitcher
Godwin, a do-it-all senior for the Lions, was the team’s top hitter with a .439 average, 28 RBI, 21 runs and one home run. A WPIAL Class AAA All-Star, Godwin also saw time on the mound and finished with a perfect 3-0 record.
Junior, Second Base
The Prexies’ leadoff hitter, Gouin was one of many Wash High players who took a leap forward this spring. He led the team with a .481 batting average, a .663 on-base percentage and 20 runs. Gouin was a threat on the base paths and was solid defensively.
Senior, Pitcher/Outfielder
The Raiders’ ace tossed 37 innings and had an area-best 0.76 ERA. The crafty left-handed pitcher also batted .340 with six doubles and two triples.
Junior, Outfielder
A member of one of the WPIAL’s best outfields, Palyas was a prototypical leadoff hitter for the Big Macs. He batted .410 with a .547 on-base percentage with 21 runs, three doubles, a triple, eight RBI and eight walks.
Senior, Second Base
The Indians’ leadoff hitter was pivotal in the WPIAL Class AAAA playoffs. He went 3-for-4 with two runs in PT’s playoff loss to Pine Richland. Pisarcik had a .354/.455/.430 line with 13 runs, 11 RBI and three doubles.
Senior, Pitcher/Third Base
Schmidt made the biggest improvement of any player in the area this spring with a 3-0 record on the mound, including a win over Canon-McMillan in a playoff play-in game, and a 1.18 ERA with 34 strikeouts and only four earned runs in 23 2/3 innings. He also drove in four runs with four doubles and two triples.
