Baseball: Cal sweeps Lake Erie

California starting pitchers Jack Dennis and Mike Fennell combined to allow only one run in 13 innings Saturday as the Vulcans earned a non-conference sweep of Lake Erie, 1-0 and 8-1.

Fennell threw a three-hitter with five strikeouts to get the shutout in the opener.

David Marcus drove in Derrik Zeroski with a first-inning single for the game’s only run.

Dennis scattered five hits in the nightcap for the Vulcans (6-5). Luke Burton pitched the final inning.

Fennell and Zeroski tripled, while Mike Peters and Marcus both doubled for Cal.

Lake Erie falls to 6-5.
