Local Briefs: Canon-McMillan baseball improves to 3-0
Jared Beech homered and Teighan Piechnick and Zack Pollack triped as Canon-McMillan won its final game at Myrtle Beach, S.C., beating Gilman Academy of Baltimore, Md., 11-1, Sunday in a high school boys baseball game.
Jake Trainor picked up the win for the Big Macs (3-0), striking out six. Mike Orlinsky took the loss.
McGuffey stayed perfect on the season with a 6-4 victory over Villa Maria Academy of Staten Island, N.Y., Sunday in Myrtle Beach, S.C., in a high school girls softball game.
C.C. Wagner had a double and triple, driving in the game-winning runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, while Sammie Weiss homered and doubled for the Highlanders (3-0).
Cassie Weiss struck out 15 in the win.
Amy Salle took the loss, while Cassie Bibula tripled for Villa Maria (6-1).
• Mia Virgilli and Natalie McNett had three hits each as Carmichaels pounded out 16 hits in an 11-1 win late Saturday over Lodi, N.J, at Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Erica Burns fired a one-hitter with eight strikeouts for the Mikes (2-0), who also got a triple out of Amanda Brown. Lindsi Reagan took the loss.
Eight different players scored as Kenyon shut out Washington & Jefferson, 16-0, in a women’s non-conference college lacrosse match Sunday.
Carolina Shipman had three goals for Kenyon (5-1).
Kelsey Roetenberg had 10 saves for the Presidents (0-3).
