Baseball: Day propels Bucs to big win
Tyler Day doubled and hit a three-run home run to help Chartiers-Houston take an 8-2 win from Bentworth in a Section 2-AA game.
The Bucs (8-4, 10-2) need to win one of the two remaining section games – Fort Cherry and Washington – to lock up a playoff spot. Doug Dinardo doubled for C-H.
Zack Atkinson went 2-for-3 and Ty Mitchell had a single and two RBI for Bentworth (3-10, 8-11).
• Dom Neff hit two doubles and scored four times to send Trinity past Waynesburg 11-3 in a Section 3-AAA game.
Neff went 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Hillers (2-8, 5-11). Blake Rohrbacher and Windsheimer each hit a double.
Aaron Hill went 3-for-4 with an RBI and run scored for Waynesburg (4-6, 6-9).
• Seth Hvizda hit two home runs in the same inning to power Beth-Center to an 11-8 victory over Burgettstown in a Section 2-AA game.
Hvizda hit a solo shot then a two-run blast in an eight-run second for the Bulldogs (5-7, 6-10). Hvizda finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and the three RBI. Aaron Ankney, Tyler Berger and Lucas Zellie each had a double and Evan Smith went 4-for-4 with three RBI.
Sam Hockenberry hit a two-run triple for the Blue Devils (3-9, 4-10). Cole Larocka doubled and Shane Transue went 3-for-3 with a double.
• Frank Jezioro went 3-for-4, with a double and drove in two runs to help Peters Township stop Upper St. Clair 11-8 in a Section 5-AAAA game.
Tyler Schmidt went 2-for-3 with a double and two rBI for the Indians (7-3, 11-5).
Gannon Rooney hit a two-run home run for USC (3-6, 9-8) and Joe Repischak had a three-run shot. Austin Raeder and Chaz Mertz each hit a double.
