Softball: South Fayette wins, sets up showdown with Trinity

Marissa France went 2-for-3 with a triple, drove in a run and scored twice to push South Fayette past West Allegheny 8-1 in a Section 2-AAA game.

Alex Kopec doubled and drove in two for the Lions (10-1, 12-1), who are tied with Trinity for the section lead. The two teams play today. Ashley Iagnemma struck out eight and allowed one run on three hits.

West Allegheny finished third in the section with an 8-4 record.

• Maddie Ludrosky struck out 17 and did not walk a batter to help Jefferson-Morgan to a 6-2 win over West Greene in a Section 2-A game.

Jessica Taylor hit a solo home run in the sixth for the Rockets (12-2, 15-2).

Bailey Bennington cracked two home runs, both solo shots, to account for the runs for West Greene (6-7, 7-10). Bennington struck out seven and did not walk a batter.

• Avella was knocked out of the race for third place in Section 2-A by losing a doubleheader, 12-2 to Burgettstown and 6-5 to Bishop Canevin.

Against Burgettstown, Bryanna Lonick struck out 11 and walked just one for the Blue Devils (11-0, 13-4), which clinched first place last week. Morgan Ellek had a triple and two RBI and Cheyenne Winters drove in two.

Jade Georgetti knocked in two runs for Avella.

In the second game, Bishop Canevin scored three in the bottom of the seventh and one in the bottom of the eighth to rally from a 5-2 deficit.

Kylee Sonson had 13 strikeouts and five walks for Bishop Canevin (8-2, 8-2). Riana Conway had a double.

Dena Simonelli had a solo home run and a double for the Eagles (5-5, 5-7) and Jade Georgetti and Abby Dobbin each hit a double.

• Erica Burns tossed a perfect game over five innings to pace Carmichaels’ 10-0 victory over California in a Section 2-A game.

Burns struck out eight and did not walk a batter for the Mikes (10-2, 12-3), who can tie Jefferson-Morgan for the section title with a win over Mapletown and Frazier in a doubleheader today.

Katie Mays, Amanda Brown, and Natalie McNett each hit a double and Burns tripled for the Mikes. Caroline Cree drove in two runs.

Cal is 0-16, including 0-14 in the section.

• Madison Hornak drove in three runs and Paige Galentine pitched a five-inning one-hitter as Trinity defeated Ringgold, 9-1, in Section 2-AAA.

Hornak went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI for the Hillers (10-1, 15-1) and Galentine struck out nine to earn the win. Delaney Elling and Danielle Ashmore added doubles; and senior Jasmine Fuqua hit a triple for Trinity.

Senior pitcher Celina Cantini took the loss for Ringgold (2-9, 2-9).
