J-M’s Bowman tosses a no-hitter in Rockets’ win
Logan Bowman threw a five-inning no-hitter and struck out 13 to lead Jefferson-Morgan past Geibel Catholic, 13-0, in a non-section game.
Bowman threw 58 pitches – 50 of which were strikes – and had his perfect game ruined when a runner reached base on an error in the third inning. He also added a double for the Rockets (5-10). Geibel (0-14) committed three errors in the loss.
•Garrit Woodburn earned the victory and California scored six runs on 12 hits to defeat Belle Vernon, 6-1, in a non-section game.
Aaron Previsky hit a double and triple for the Trojans (17-0) and Woodburn struck out four on the mound. Matt Benecky took the loss for Belle Vernon (10-7), which committed two errors and only had four hits.
California completed its undefeated regular season under first-year head coach Nick Damico.
• Ty Aeschbacher drove in the game-winning run on a bunt and Billy Bowlen earned the win as Carmichaels defeated Avella, 5-4, in Section 1-A.
The Mikes (8-2, 11-2) and Eagles (6-4, 7-5) were tied at four in the top of the seventh when Joel Spishock hit a one-out double. Spishock advanced to third on a wild pitch and Aeschbacher laid down a squeeze punt to give Carmichaels the go-ahead run.
Cory Fuller pitched the bottom of the seventh to earn the save and Santino Paris struck out 13 to take the loss for Avella.
• Troy Whitfield hit a game-winning three-run double and Kaleb Susko struck out four as Chartiers-Houston defeated Fort Cherry, 7-5, in Section 2-AA.
The Buccaneers (9-5, 11-5) trailed 5-4 entering the bottom of the sixth inning when Whitfield stepped to the plate with the bases loaded. His bases-clearing double gave C-H the victory in a game that was suspended Monday. Josh Gray also had three hits for the Bucs and John Findling hit a home run for Fort Cherry (3-11, 3-12).
• Ben Carlisle struck out 10 batters and allowed just three hits as West Greene defeated Mapletown, 10-0, in Section 1-A.
J.Tyler Baker and Trevin Bedilion hit doubles for the Pioneers (1-8, 4-9) and Keith Popernack took the loss for the Maples (0-10, 3-13), which committed eight errors during the section match up.
• Matt Gummersbach struck out three and Peters Township had 11 hits to defeat Beth-Center, 11-2, in a four inning non-section game.
Ryan Tassone hit a triple for the Indians (14-5) and Ryan Tassone, Phil Mary and Tyler Schmidt added doubles for Peters Township. Beth-Center (7-12) committed four errors and Lane Ziker took the loss after walking four and striking out one.
