FLORENCE, Ky. – Cole Miles’ two-out single scored Sam Eberle from third base and capped a comeback by Florence as the Freedom defeated the Wild Things 6-5 in 10 innings Saturday night at UC Health Stadium.

Florence swept the three-game series to open the Frontier League season.

The loss was the Wild Things’ franchise-record 10th in a row, dating back to 2013.

Washington had leads of 2-0, 3-2 and 5-4, but each time Florence rallied. The Wild Things took a 5-4 lead in the top of the 10th when Danny Poma singled with two outs and Ryan Kresky hit a bloop run-scoring triple down the right-field line.

Florence, however, tied the game against reliever Jonathan Kountis (0-1), loading the bases on a walk, hit batsman and a bunt single. Another hit batsman forced in the tying run. After Kountis struck out two batters, Miles singled home Eberle with the game-winning run.

C.J. Beatty hit a two-run homer for Washington in the third inning and Stewart Ijames had a run-scoring hit that made the score 3-2 in the fifth.

Washington starting pitcher Tim Flight struck out nine in 5 2/3 innings.
