W&J football ranked in preseason publications
The first two preseason 2014 Division III football national Top 25 rankings are out and Washington & Jefferson College is rated in both publications. The Sporting News College Football Preview lists the Presidents as the nation’s 22nd-ranked team, while Lindy’s College Football Preview places W&J as its No. 24 team.
Presidents junior left tackle Zack Crossey was selected to The Sporting News Preseason All-America team. Crossey was the lead blocker for a W&J offense last year that ranked 28th in NCAA Division III in scoring (36.5 ppg) and 45th in total offense (428.7 ypg). Crossey was a first team All-Presidents’ Athletic Conference selection.
W&J finished the 2013 season with an 8-3 record and won the program’s 23rd PAC championship. W&J lost to eventual NCAA runner-up Mount Union in the first round of the Division III playoffs.
Crossey is one of two PAC players on The Sporting News preseason All-America team as Thomas More senior running back Domonique Hayden also was selected. Thomas More is ranked No. 14 by The Sporting News and 16th by Lindy’s. Thomas More and W&J will play Oct. 4 at Cameron Stadium.
