Boys soccer: Bentworth closing on playoff berth
A balanced scoring attack led Bentworth to a 3-2 victory over Geibel in Section 4-A Tuesday. The win puts the Bearcats (7-4, 9-7-1) one win away from a playoff spot. That could come Thursday against Beth-Center (6-4-1, 8-6-1).
Taylor Bunner, Wyatt Selvoski and Chad Gurdish each scored a goal for Bentworth.
James Ewing and Bailey McIntyre each had a goal for Geibel (9-2, 13-3).
• John Bedar scored with four minutes remaining in the second overtime to wrap up a 3-2 victory by Beth-Center over Charleroi.
Kyle Border scored one goal and B-C (6-4-1, 8-6-1) had an own goal.
Charleroi fell to 4-7 in the section and 6-9-1 overall.
• Alec Belcastro scored two goals and added an assist to help Trinity to a 6-1 victory over Brownsville in a Section 6-AA match.
Dawson Hilk, Austin Armstrong and Nate McMurdy each had a goal and Preston Kulla a goal and assist for the Hillers (8-1-2, 11-3-2).
Matt Watson scored for Brownsville (1-10, 1-13).
Nick McKee’s goal with 20 minutes remaining broke a tie and sent South Fayette to a 3-2 victory over host Montour in Section 5-AA.
The win leaves South Fayette (9-1, 13-1-1) a half-game behind section leader West Allegheny.
Jordan Smith and Zach Ali each had a goal for the Lions. Montour drops to 6-4-1 in the section and 6-6-1 overall.
• Eden Christian received goals from five different players and defeated host Chartiers-Houston 5-0 in Section 3-AA.
