Sarra replaces Schifino as Waynesburg basketball coach
Dave Sarra will be back on the Waynesburg High School boys basketball team’s bench this winter but he will have a different seat. Sarra will be moving into the head coach’s chair.
The Central Greene School Board hired Sarra as the Raiders’ head coach during its meeting Tuesday night.
It will be the second stint for Sarra as head coach. He guided the Raiders for four seasons (2009-10 through 2012-13) before resigning in April of 2013. He was succeeded by former West Virginia University and California University player Drew Schifino, who coached the Raiders for one season before taking the head coaching job at Steel Valley last month. Sarra was an assistant coach under Schifino.
Waynesburg had a 6-16 record last season that included a 2-10 mark in Section 5-AAA. The Raiders have dropped to Class AA for this season and will compete in Section 4 with Bentworth, Beth-Center, Brownsville, Carmichaels, Charleroi and Frazier.
A former middle school basketball coach, Sarra spent seven seasons as the Raiders head football coach and currently is an assistant coach for the Raiders.
