Cal clips Clarion

CLARION – James Harris completed 19 of 33 passes for 284 yards and three touchdowns to lead California to a 43-32 victory over Clarion in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference game Saturday.

The victory kept Cal (6-1, 7-1) atop the West Division while Clarion fell to 2-6, including 2-5 in the conference.

Harris hit tight end Tom Greene with a 25-yard strike to open the scoring before finding wide receiver Garry Brown from 22 yards out and Kowan Scott from 37 as the Vulcans built a 28-14 halftime lead.

Tailback Terrell Roberson rushed for 79 yards and scored on runs of 1 and 3 yards, the latter pushing Cal’s lead to 38-26.

Cody Nuzzo hit a pair of 20-yard field goals and defensive end Jawan Turner sacked Clarion quarterback Mike Deitrick for a safety with 44 seconds to play to make it an 11-point bulge.

Connor Simmons completed 25 of 51 passes for 376 yards and a touchdown and ran for three more for the Golden Eagles.
