Late TD lifts Waynesburg

2 min read

GREENVILLE – Waynesburg kept its Presidents’ Athletic Conference championship hopes alive Saturday night at Thiel. But it wasn’t easy.

Jake Forsythe rushed for a 10-yard touchdown with 1:15 remaining in the fourth quarter, his third score of the game, and Carter Hill threw a 2-point conversion pass to Zac Capan to lift the Yellow Jackets to a 35-32 victory over the Tomcats.

The victory improves Waynesburg to 6-1 in the PAC and 7-1 overall and sets up a crucial game next week at home against Thomas More (6-1, 7-2). Thiel falls to 1-4, 2-5.

Forsythe rushed for 200 yards and three scores on 24 carries, while Hill completed 18 of 27 passes for 266 yards and two scores and one interception for the Yellow Jackets, who needed every one of the 493 yards of total offense they gained in the game to keep pace with Thiel, which gained 470 yards.

Following Forsythe’s go-ahead score, the Yellow Jackets came up with a big defensive stop, as Josh Tolliver sacked Thiel quarterback Ryan Radke, who threw for 317 yards and two touchdowns, on fourth down to turn the ball over on downs.

Marcus Johnson had 10 receptions for 210 yards and two touchdowns for the Tomcats, while Bernie Thompson hauled in six passes for 90 yards and a score for Waynesburg.
