Girls soccer: Charleroi maintains Section 2-A lead

Senior forward Halee Fedrick scored with 18 minutes remaining and first-place Charleroi held off a late Bentworth rally as the Cougars walked away with a 2-1 win in the Section 2-A match.

The Bearcats (6-3, 6-5) took an early 1-0 lead when Beatrice Kossel scored an unassisted goal. They held onto the lead until Charleroi junior defender Morgan Reily scored the tying goal 22 minutes into the second half. The Cougars (8-1, 9-2) took the lead when Fedrick corralled a loose ball from 18 yards out and hit a cross that landed in the corner of the net and Charleroi held on for its seventh straight victory.

• Freshman forward Breanne Latsko had a hat trick as Peters Township rolled to a 8-0 win over Brashear in a Section 4-AAA match.

Senior Carly Johns added two goal, while Maddie Schwerzler Maddi Santo and Emily Cottrill each tallied one for the Indians (6-0, 9-0). Junior Reilly McGlumphy and sophomore Ava Falcione combined for the shutout in net.

Brashear is 1-6 in section and 2-7 overall.

• Giorgia Sim and Amy Hancher both recorded hat tricks as McGuffey rolled past Brownsville, 7-0, in Section 4-AA.

Jorey Wolfe had the other goal for the Highlanders (4-3, 4-5-1) and Katie Demi recorded the shutout in net. The Falcons are 1-7 in section and 1-8-1 overall.

• Lily Behm scored five goals to lead Waynesburg past Uniontown, 7-0, in a Section 4-AA match.

Sophie Benco and Madison Clayton added goals for the Raiders (2-4-1, 2-5-2), while goalkeeper Josey Evans recorded the shutout. Uniontown is 0-6, 1-6-1.

• Jessica Blumen scored two goals and Chartiers-Houston defeated visiting Serra Catholic 3-0 in Section 2-A. Blumen gave C-H (7-2, 7-4) a 1-0 lead at halftime and added another goal int he second half. Carly Wilson also tallied a goal int he second half and goalkeeper Brittany Holmes made 10 saves.

Serra is 5-4, 5-5.

• Meghan Hoerger scored two goals and South Fayette defeated visiting Thomas Jefferson 4-1 in Section 5-AA. The Lions improved to 5-1 in the section and 8-3 overall.

• Sabrina Bryan and Aideen O’Donoghue both recorded hat tricks to help Canon-McMillan defeat West Allegheny, 9-0, in Section 4-AAA.

Sydney Keremes, Allison Thomas and Ashley Oddi also scored for the Big Macs (6-2-1, 7-2-1). Senior goalkeeper Kyra Murhpy recorded her seventh shutout.
