Girls soccer: Fedrick leads Charleroi’s charge
Section 2-A leader Charleroi overcame a first-half deficit and defeated visiting Chartiers-Houston 4-1 Monday night.
C-H (7-4, 7-6) took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Karlee Zanaglio, but Halee Fedrick’s goal tied the match at 1-1 at halftime.
Fedrick scored two more goals in the second half, and Kaithyn Riley had a goal and assist for the Cougars, who improved to 10-1 in the section and 12-2 overall.
• Allison Thomas scored off a set piece in the final two minutes of the first half for the match’s only goal as Canon-McMillan defeated host Chartiers Valley 1-0 in Section 4-AAA.
Goalkeeper Kyra Murphy made three saves in recording the shutout for C-M, which improved to 7-2 in the section and 9-2-1 overall. Chartiers Valley is 5-5, 6-5-2.
• Hannah Lacey scored one goal and assisted on another in the first half Monday as Beth-Center defeated Monessen 2-0.
Lacey assisted on a goal by Kinlee Whited in the 26th minute that gave B-C a 1-0 lead. Lacey’s unassisted goal nine minutes later gave the Bulldogs (2-8, 3-8) some insurance that wasn’t needed because goalkeeper Anny Gustovich stopped all six Monessen shots on goal.
• Brenna McGuire scored two goals to power South Fayette to a 4-0 victory over host East Allegheny in Section 5-AA.
Morgan Marmarelli and Maggie Pine each had a goal for the Lions, who are 9-1 and in second place in the section (9-3 overall).
• Madison Clayton scored on a breakaway in the second overtime to give Waynesburg a 1-0 victory over visiting McGuffey in Section 4-AA.
It was Clayton’s 11th goal of the season and evened Waynesburg’s record at 4-4-1 in the section. The Raiders are 4-6-2 overall. McGuffey fell to 4-5, 4-7-1.
