High school baseball roundup: Martin powers C-M to win

Clay Martin drove in the eventual game-winning run as Canon-McMillan defeated Upper St. Clair, 7-5, in a Section 5-AAAA game Wednesday afternoon.

Martin went 4-for-4 with four RBI, including a two-run single in the top of the seventh to give the Big Macs (1-1, 3-2) a 7-5 lead. Ian Hess earned the victory for C-M by tossing two innings and striking out two.

Andrew Wheeler hit a home run for the Panthers (0-1, 3-2).

• The top of Beth-Center’s batting order started hitting early against Frazier and didn’t stop until the Bulldogs had a 16-1 victory in six innings in Section 2-AA.

Jacob Greco, Nick Pryor and Tyler Ross, the 1-2-3 hitters in the B-C lineup, each went 4-for-5 and Tim Terhorst was 3-for-5 as the four players combined for 15 of the Bulldogs’ 18 hits.

Greco hit two doubles, Pryor scored three runs, drove in two and stole a base, and Ross scored four times and drove in two runs. Terhorst had three RBI.

Winning pitcher Lane Zekir scattered five hits and strike out five in a complete game for B-C (1-1, 1-2). Frazier fell to 0-2, 0-3.

• Peters Township’s Frank Jezioro continued his torrid start to the season by going 2-for-3 with a triple, home run and four RBI in the Indians’ 9-3 non-section victory over visiting Carrick.

Jezioro has two home runs, three triples and two doubles on the season. Brad McIntosh went 2-for-3 with two RBI for PT (5-2). Ethan Henderson doubled to back the winning pitching of Bob Finn.

• Chris Swartz pitched a four-hit complete game and drove in three runs to power California to a 9-2 victory over visiting Monessen in a non-section game.

California (5-0), which has scored 74 runs this season, did all its scoring in the first two innings against Monessen (1-2) and Swartz needed only 74 pitches to complete the win.

Casey Zajicek and Johnny DeFranco each doubled for Cal. Louden Conte was 2-for-2 with two runs and and Aaron Previsky was 2-for-4 and scored twice.

• Santino Paris went 4-for-4 with five RBI and two runs to lift Avella over Jefferson-Morgan, 13-4, in a non-section game.

Cody Dobbin earend the win for the Eagles (3-1), who took advantage of six errors by J-M and broke the game open with a seven-run fifth inning. Austin Clark hit two doubles for Jefferson-Morgan (1-3).

• Jordan Davis struck out six and Bob Dittrich had two hits as Chartiers-Houston defeated Charleroi, 2-1, in a Section 2-AA game.

Zach Southern entered the game in the bottom of the seventh with two on and one out, but ended the inning unscathed to earn the save for the Bucs (2-0, 2-1).

Chartiers-Houston scored the winning run in the top of the seventh on an errant throw. Charleroi (0-1, 1-3) had three hits.

• Fort Cherry rallied from a 5-1 deficit in the second by scoring 10 times over the final three innings to take an 11-8 win from Northgate in a Section 1-AA game.

Winning pitcher Alex Babirad doubled and Shane Turkiley had a two-run single for FC (1-1, 1-1).

• Jacob Wamsley doubled and hit a two-run home run to power Carmichaels to an 11-4 win over Albert Gallatin in a non-section game.

Jake Kinsell struck out nine and walked two for Carmichaels (3-0).

Joe Embacher hit a two-run home run for Albert Gallatin (2-1).

• Ken Ryan struck out 11 to help Brownsville to a 5-3 win over Waynesburg in a Section 3-AA game Tuesday.

Ryan also triple for the Falcons (1-0, 2-0). Shane roebuck added a double.

Joel Rohanna tripled and Hunter Robinson had two doubles anda sole home run for the Raiders (0-1, 1-1).
