High school softball roundup: Char-Houston slips past J-M

Kayla Elliot’s ground ball scored the eventual game-winning run Wednesday to lift Chartiers-Houston over Jefferson-Morgan, 4-2, in a Section 1-A game.

The Bucs (2-0, 5-1) trailed 2-0 entering the bottom of the sixth inning and they score four runs on a wild pitch, Elliot’s ground ball, and RBI singles by Kassie and Macie Kesneck to take a 4-1 lead.

Reagan Rush went 3-for-4 for the Rockets (2-1, 4-2).

• Moriah McGuier struck out 11 and McGuffey used 15 hit to defeat Bentworth, 9-3, in a Section 2-AA game.

Emily Irey, Meghan Shultz and Carae Wagner each had two RBI for the Highlanders (3-0, 3-0), who had seven players have multi-hit games and stole five bases.

Bentworth (2-1, 4-3) led 2-0 after two innings, but was outcored 9-1 the rest of the game.

• Paige Allen and Jade Georgetti combined for eight RBI to power Avella past Fort Cherry, 16-5, in a six-inning game in Section 1-A.

Georgetti hit two home runs and drove in five runs and Allen had a double and triple that produced three RBI for Avella (1-1, 1-3). Winning pitcher Sammie Dunkle had a double, triple and home run.

• Linda Rush hit a solo home run and had four RBI as Canon-McMillan defeated Carrick, 23-2, in a three-inning Section 4-AAAA game.

Taylor Bruno also hit a home run for the Big Macs (3-0, 5-0) and pitcher Tara Fowler earned the victory. Carrick (0-3, 0-3) committed 11 errors.

• Winning pitcher Erica Burns struck out 12 batters, went 2-for-3 at the plate and had one of Carmichaels’ three doubles in the Mikes’ 6-1 victory over host Charleroi in Section 2-AA.

The win moves Carmichaels to 3-0 in the section and 3-2 overall. The Mikes play today at McGuffey. Charleroi falls to 1-2, 2-3.

Carolina Cree had a triple for Carmichaels’ big hit, and Morgan Faddis and Natalie McNett each delivered a double.

Adrianna Gottheld went 2-for-3 for Charleroi.

• Kate Tarr had a big game as Burgettstown rolled over Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 15-0 in four innings.

Tarr was the winning pitcher, tossing a one-hit shutout with seven strikeouts. She also was 3-for-4 at the plate with a home runs and three RBI.

Paige Sherman also had a big day with the bat for Burgettstown (2-0, 5-1) by going 2-fopr-2 with a double, triple and five RBI.

OLSH fell to 0-2 in section and 0-7 overall.

• Thomas Jefferson knocked Trinity out of the WPIAL playoffs last season and the Jaguars dealt the Hillers their first loss this season, 8-6, in a Section 3-AAA game.

Trinity (2-1, 5-1) gave up five runs in the fourth inning and committed five errors in the game. The Hillers still managed to score two runs in the top of the seventh inning and put the potential tying run on second base before the game’s final out.

Lindsay Kalup led TJ (1-1, 3-3) with a double and triple, and Alysa Fairman doubled to back the winning pitching of Lacie Lautner, who gave up 14 hits.

Hali Justice and Madison Hornack each went 3-for-4 for Trinity with Justice hitting a double. Olivia Gray and Brooke Beck also doubled.

• Carly Konopka pitched a two-hit shutout, and Kellyn Perich drove in two runs, as Peters Township defeated visiting Mt. Lebanon 4-0 in Section 4-AAAA.

Konopka struck out five and allowed only four baserunners as the Indians improved to 1-1 in section and 4-2 overall. Konopka doubled and drove in a run, and Olivia Castellone also doubled.

Mt. Lebanon is 0-3, 0-4.

• Jeannette scored 10 runs over the first two innings and held off California 15-6 in Section 2-A.

Karen Watkins had a double and Liz Wochar singled twice for Cal.

• Bailey Parshall pitched a two-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts as Belle Vernon blanked visiting Ringgold 13-0 in a five-inning Section 3-AAA game.

Belle Vernon had 11 hits. Erica Amoroso led the Leopards with a triple and two RBI. Kaitlyn Faiola and Alyssa Larson each doubled. Parshall helped her own cause with two RBI. Sarah Simsic and Emily Frederick also drove in two runs each.

• Waynesburg and Brownsville combined for 30 runs and 41 hits, but Hannah Gibbons’ five RBI lifted the Raiders to a 17-13 victory in Section 2-AA game.

Gibbons had five hits, including two doubles, and drove in five runs for the Raiders (2-1, 3-4). Taylor Staley, who earned the victory in the circle, also drove in two runs with five hits and Tara Staley added four RBI.

Cheyenne Wasko has a home run and five RBI for the Falcons (1-3, 1-4).

• Bailey Bennington threw her second no-hitter this week and drove in two runs as West Greene defeated Mapletown, 12-0, in a six-inning Section 1-A game.

Madison Renner hit two home runs, including a walk-off three-run shot in the sixth to envoke the mercy rule, and drove in six runs for the Pioneers (2-0, 5-1). West Greene had 15 hits and Bennington struck out 13 batters.

Mapletown (1-2, 2-2) committed two errors.

• Chelsea Snyder had two doubles to help Beth-Center to a 9-2 win over Washington in a Section 2-AA game.

Abby Gustovich struck out 10 to pick up the win for B-C (1-2, 1-2).

Alexas Strawn and Morgan Pattison doubled for Wash High (0-3, 0-3).

• Chelsea Travis drove in two runs in the fifth inning to help McGuffey secure a 5-2 win over Beth-Center in a Section 2-AA game Tuesday.

Rachel Kleinhans doubled and scored a run for the Highlanders. Moriah McGuier struck out seven and walked one.

Chelsea Snyder had a triple for Beth-Center (0-2, 0-2).
