Wild Things sign former Padres player

Lee Orr, a former San Diego Padres prospect, signed a contract with the Wild Things.

The outfielder-first baseman played four seasons in the San Diego Padres system with the Eugene Emeralds, Fort Wayne Tincaps, Lake Elsinore Storm and the San Antonio Missions. Orr has played in 307 career games, has 229 career hits, 59 doubles, nine triples, 38 home runs and 147 RBI.

Last season, Orr spent the year with the San Antonio Missions, the Class AA affiliate of the Padres. He made starts in all three outfield positions and first base. Last season with the Missions, Orr compiled 38 hits, eight doubles, eight home runs and 29 RBI.

In 2013, Orr produced a strong season with Lake Elsinore, Class A Advanced of the Padres, hitting .276 with 17 doubles, four triples, 10 home runs and 36 RBI.

Orr originally was a 40th-round draft pick by the Cincinnati Reds in 2010 but did not sign. A year later, he was selected by the Padres in the 13th round.

Orr played at McNeese State in Louisiana. The 6-3, 215-pounder was a three-time All-Southland Conference selection and named a Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball and Baseball America.
