High school softball roundup: Mays’ bat keeps Carmichaels unbeaten in 2-AA
Katie Mays homered and doubled as Carmichaels remained unbeaten in Section 2-AA with a 6-3 victory Friday over Bentworth.
Winning pitcher Erica Burns allowed eight hits but struck out nine for the Mikes (6-0, 6-2), who were aided by seven Bentworth errors.
Taylor Smydo and Aubrey Yates both doubled for the Bearcats (6-3, 8-5).
• Macie Kesneck drove in three runs and Sabrina Stankus and Kayla Elliott each tripled to lead Chartiers-Houston past West Greene, 12-5, in Section 1-A.
Winning pitcher Kate Dittrich allowed 11 hits but consistently worked out of jams for the Bucs (5-0, 9-1), who also got a double from Kayla Alderson.
Madison Renner homered and losing pitcher Bailey Bennington and Linzee Stover each doubled for West Greene (2-3, 6-4).
• Moriah McGuier scattered five hits and struck out 11 as McGuffey held off Washington, 6-3, in Section 2-AA.
Chelsea Travis doubled for McGuffey, which improved to 5-1 both overall and in section play.
Losing pitcher Taylor Ellis and Jaime Moore both doubled for Washington (0-8, 1-8).
• Makenzie Cree threw a two-hitter and Mapletown scored six runs in the second inning en route to an 11-1 five-inning win over Avella in Section 1-A.
Michaela Perry had a two-run double for the Maples (2-3, 4-3).
Brooke Burchianti doubled for Avella (1-3, 2-4).
• Abby Gustovich allowed six hits as Beth-Center edged Charleroi, 4-3, in Section 2-AA.
Mary Gustovich doubled for Beth-Center (2-4, 2-4), which led 3-0 through five innings before scoring the game-winning run in the top of the seventh.
Jen Tighlman allowed six hits for Charleroi (2-4, 3-5), which got a triple from Morgan Riley.
