Softball: Beth-Center holds off Waynesburg
Winning pitcher Abby Gustovich and Mary Gustovich combined for six hits and six RBI as Beth-Center picked up a key Section 2-AA victory Saturday over Waynesburg, 8-5.
Beth-Center (3-4, 3-4) scored seven runs in the first four innings, then had to hold off a late charge by Waynesburg (2-3, 3-7).
Abby Gustovich scattered nine hits and struck out four. She helped her cause by going 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and driving in three runs. Mary Gustovich also was 3-for-4 with three RBI, and Victoria White and Ally Trippy each doubled for the Bulldogs.
Tara Staley and Sidney Hare each doubled for Waynesburg, which has lost three in a row.
• Jessica Blumen was 4-for-4 with a double and four RBI to power Chartiers-Houston to a 10-0 victory in six innings over visiting Washington in a non-section game.
Winning pitcher Kaitlyn Dittrich threw a two-hitter and struck out six for the Bucs (10-1). Kayla Alderson doubled and drove in two runs and Casey Craig added a double to the C-H attack.
Wash High’s record fell to 1-9.
