Softball: Presidents’ winning streak reaches 7
Washington & Jefferson ran its winning streak to seven games by sweeping Thiel 9-1 and 1-0, in PAC play.
W&J improved to 10-4 in the conference and 17-9 overall. Theil is 5-9, 12-14.
Sadie Marak was 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI to spark W&J in the opener. Emily Watson had two hits and a double, backing the winning pitching of Krista McCartney, who threw a two-hitter.
Jen Bahm’s single in the bottom of the sixth drove in Marak with the second game’s only run. Watson was the winning pitcher with two innings of relief.
• California swept a PSAC West Division doubleheader from host Indiana, 12-0 and 5-3.
Lindsay Reicoff hit a three-run during Cal’s six-run fourth inning in the opener. Reicoff, who also doubled, had four RBI in the game and winning pitcher Alex Sagl threw a three-hit shutout with six strikeouts. Jacquelyn Fowler opened the scoring with a solo homer.
Reicoff came through again in the second game, breaking a 3-3 tiw with a two-run homer in the top of the seventh inning. The Vulcans (14-5, 20-9) also received a two-run homer from Megan Jahoda after IUP (10-6, 12-14) had forged an early 2-0 lead.
