Softball: Danley’s double helps Bentworth outlast B-C
Michaela Danley doubled in the go-ahead run and scored an insurance run in the 11th inning to give Bentworth an 8-6 victory over Beth-Center in Section 2-AA.
Casey Hite struck out 8 and Taylor Smydo tripled for the Bearcats (7-4, 9-6).
Abby Gustovich struck out six and went 4-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI for Beth-Center (3-6, 3-6). Caitlyn Kanalis was 2-for-4.
• Kellyn Perich pitched a five-inning no-hitter and Carly Konopka drove in four runs Thursday as Peters Township rolled over visiting Brooke (W.Va.), 13-0.
Perich struck out eight and issued only one walk as Peters Township improved its record to 7-6.
Konopka was 3-for-3, stole a base and had one of PT’s three doubles. Olivia Castellone and Haley Cecere also doubled for the Indians, who scored six times in both the second and third innings.
• Erica Burns had a two-run double in a four-run seventh to push Carmichaels to a 6-2 win over Brownsville in Section 2-AA.
Burns struck out eight and walked none for the Mikes (8-0, 8-2). Natalie McNett had a two-run single in the seventh. Megan Waker hit two doubles.
Hannah Bartovsky and Shelby Settles each had a doube for Brownsville (4-5, 4-6).
• McGuffey scored three runs in each of the first two innings and they were enough for pitcher Moriah McGuier as the host Highlanders defeated Waynesburg 6-2 in Section 2-AA.
The win keeps McGuffey one game behind first-place Carmichaels. The Highlanders and Mikes are scheduled to meet twice next week including Monday at Carmichaels.
Megan Shultz and McGuier led McGuffey’s hitters. Shultz was 3-for-3 with two doubles, and McGuier hit a three-run double with two outs in the second inning. She also drove in a run during the first inning. McGuier struck out six and issued only one walk.
Tiffany Ross had a double for Waynesburg (3-4, 4-8).
• A 10-run third inning paved the way for Bethel Park to take a 14-4 victory from Canon-McMillan in a six-inning Section 4-AAAA game.
Ashley Burford triple and Haley Reid went 3-for-5 with four RBI for BP (8-1, 9-3). Shelby Reid had a double and triple and Rachel Albert a double.
Linda Rush hit a solo home run for the Big Macs (6-1, 7-1).
• Hannah Kondratik was 4-for-4 with six RBI, leading Charleroi to a 16-0 victory over visiting Washington in a four-inning Section 2-AA game.
Lily Wical drove in three runs for Charleroi (3-5, 4-6), which receive ddoubles from Kaitlynn McCann and Morgan Riley. Winning pitcher Jen Tilghman struck out five and allowed only one hit.
• Lexie Mooney had a double, single and four RBI to help West Greene defeat Mapletown 8-2 in Section 1-A.
Bailey Bennington struck out 11 for the Pioneers (4-3, 8-4), which took advantage of seven intentional walks. Sage Vliet and Marissa Rode each had a double.
Abby Shipley had two doubles and a single for the Maples (3-5, 5-5). Maddie Bogden had an RBI single.
