SF’s Rossi repeats as Football Coach of Year
Joe Rossi made it two in a row Sunday.
Rossi, who led the South Fayette High School football team to a second consecutive PIAA Class AA football championship, won his second Football Coach of the Year award at the Tri-County Athletic Directors Coach of the Year Banquet at the DoubleTree by Hilton.
It was Rossi’s fourth time overall for the honor.
Other coach winners were Mike Lesko of Jefferson-Morgan in wrestling; Nick Damico of California in baseball; Mark Deer of Burgettstown in softball; Joe Salvino of Monessen in boys basketball; and Laura Montecalvo of Chartiers-Houston in girls basketball.
The baseball and softball awards were based on the 2014 season.
Jeremy Coccari received the Meghan Canterna Memorial Award as Special Olympics Athlete of the Year.
The Bill Christy Memorial Award for Excellence in Officiating went to Larry Piazzi and Dave Bergstedt (posthumously).
Bill Wiltz of Charleroi was this year’s selection for the Tri-County Athletic Directors’ Award.
Bobby Russell received the Roy Gillespie Memorial Special Award.
South Fayette’s football team received the Observer-Reporter Sports Headliner award.
Madison Dupont of Jefferson-Morgan and Megan Simpson of Trinity were honored with the Bill Christy Sportsmanship Award.
Receiving plaques as Olympic Sports Coach of the Year were Bobby Dyer of Peters Township, Dave Derrico of Canon-McMillan and Joe Winans of South Fayette.
The Tri-County Athletic Directors’ Scholarship Winners were Jamie Muccioli, Frazier High School; Reagan Rush, Jefferson-Morgan; Kassie Kesneck, Chartiers-Houston; Natalie Hilton, South Fayett; Emma Lucas, Ringgold; Bray Jackson, West Greene; Santino Paris, Avella; Garrett Whalen, Fort Cherry; Brett Brumbaugh, South Fayette; and Jared Hladycz, Canon-McMillan.
