Rebellion win season finale over Racers

2 min read

The Pennsylvania Rebellion wrapped up the 2015 National Pro Fastpitch softball season with a wild, 13-8 victory over the Akron Racers Tuesday in a game that was called in the bottom of the sixth because of rain.

The Rebellion won 10 of the final 19 games to finish with a 16-32 record and in fifth place in the five-team league. The Rebellion will not be participating in the NPF Championship Series, which gets under way for the top four teams Friday in Hoover, Ala., to determine the league champion. The USSSA Pride won last year’s title.

The Rebellion broke a 7-7 tie with a four-run fifth and added two more in the sixth. Alisa Goler singled in two runs and Kristyn Sandberg and Sammie Garcia each drove in one in the fifth.

Sandberg’s sacrifice fly drove in one run and an error allowed another to score in the sixth.

Whitney Arion homered and drove in four runs to help the Rebellion rally from an early 4-0 deficit. Cheyenne Cordes also homered as the Rebellion pushed the lead to 7-4 in the top of the fourth. But a three-run home run by Nerissa Myers tied the game in the bottom of the inning.

Lara Andrews had two singles and scored two runs for the Rebellion. Jill Barrett had two hits and two RBI for the Racers, who are the No. 3 seed for the championship series. The Chicago Bandits are No. 2 and Pride No. 1.
