Boys basketball: Valentic scores 35 for unbeaten Peters Twp.

Nick Valentic scored a game-high 35 points and made five of Peters Township’s 10 three-point field goals Tuesday night as the Indians remained undefeated with an 87-53 thumping of visiting Burrell in a non-section game.

Valentic made 14 field goals in the game and helped PT (3-0) forge a commanding 42-27 lead at halftime. The Indians won their first two games last weekend at the Pine-Richland tournament in down-to-the-wire contests. This time, PT cruised to the victory.

Ethan Young and Ben Doyle also reached double figures in scoring with 10 points each.

Burrell (1-2) was led by Brendan Lettrich’s 17 points. Lucas Cable had 13.

Monessen 83, Norwin 75: Dwight Moore scored a career-high 39 points to power Monessen to an 83-75 victory over Norwin and into the championship round of the Franklin Regional tournament.

Moore made nine three-point field goals and the Greyhounds (2-1) overcame a one-point halftime deficit to pull away for the win, which has them playing either the host team or Jeannette tonight. It was the second consecutive win over a Class AAAA team for Monessen, the defending WPIAL Class A champion.

Lavalle Rush, who made the game-winning shot in double overtime Saturday against Chartiers Valley, scored 20 points. Jaden Altomore followed with 12.

Gage McCracken paced Norwin (1-2) with 22 points. Nick Vieceli had 15 points and Anthony Dellefemine had 13.

Bentworth 68, Jefferson-Morgan 60: Nick Silver led three Bentworth players in double figures with 24 points and the Bearcats overcome some poor free-throw shooting to win at Jefferson-Morgan 68-60 in a non-conference game.

Ray Logan followed Silver in the scoring column with 21 points and Steven Herner contributed 19 points for the Bearcats (2-1), who won their second game in as many nights. Bentworth won despite making only four of 16 free throws.

Jefferson-Morgan (0-2) was paced by D.L. Garrett, who scored 19 points. The Rockets also had three players in double figures as Casey Wilson scored 12 points and Austin DeFrank 11.

Waynesburg 62, West Greene 58: West Greene fought back late in the fourth quarter, but Waynesburg made free throws down the stretch to clinch a 62-58 victory in a non-section game.

Play was stopped with 46 remaining in the first half after West Greene junior forward Kolton Rush collided with a teammate going for a loose ball. Both teams went to their respective lockerrooms and Rush was taken from the gymnasium on a stretcher. The Pioneers (1-1) were led by junior forward Craig Weaver, who had 19 points., and Eric Stoll chipped in 12 points.

Sophomore guard Darton McIntire scored a game-high 26 points for Waynesburg (2-1), which led 32-29 at halftime and made eight of 11 free throws. Mitch Warmen added 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Canon-McMillan 65, Valley 42: Canon-McMillan only had one player score in double figures, but used five three-point field goals and a tough defensive effort to defeat Valley, 65-42, in a non-section game.

Carson Miller scored a game-high 12 points for the Big Macs (3-0), who led 21 points at the half, and overcame a 22-point fourth quarter by the Vikings (0-3). Britton Beachy and RJ Bell both had nine points for C-M.

Carmichaels 56, Avella 49: Blake Conard and Joel Spishock combined for 27 points to help Carmichaels remain unbeaten with a 56-49 win over Avella in a non-section game.

Conard had 15 points and Spishock added 12 for the Mikes (3-0), who pulled away with a 17-point fourth quarter. Liam Shea chipped in eight points for Carmichaels.

Cody Dobbins had 18 points for the Eagles (0-3), who have lost 22 consecutive games dating back to last season.
