Chartiers-Houston deals SSB loss
Cameron Hanley scored 19 points, grabbed nine rebounds and led host Chartiers-Houston to a 56-52 non-section victory Wednesday over previously undefeated South Side Beaver.
The game was close throughout as C-H (2-1) led 25-22 at halftime. South Side beaver (3-1) battled to tie at 44-44 after three quarters but C-H won the fourth quarter 12-8. Chartiers-Houston held SSB without a three-point field goal.
The Bucs received a boost from A.J. Myers, who played in his first game of the season. Myers scored 13 points. Andrew scored 12 points on four three-pointers.
South Side Beaver, which defeated Burgettstown by 31 points Monday, received a game-high 20 points from Logan Jones. David Wilson had 14 points for the Rams and Jared Conti scored 12.
Frankling Regional 106, Monessen 99, 2OT: For the third consecutive time in less than a week, Monessen took a Class AAAA opponent to overtime.
The latest thriller left the Greyhounds frustrated and less than a second away from a tournament title. Franklin Regional took the game into overtime with two free throws then outscored Monessen in the second overtime period to walk away with a 106-99 victory and the Mike Rettger Tournament championship.
Monessen senior guard LaValle Rush, who had a game-high 28 points, made a three-pointer with five seconds remaining in regulation to give the Greyhounds (2-2) an 80-78 lead. The Panthers (2-2) called a timeout and Todd Summers was fouled after the inbounds pass before making both free throws to tie it with 0.4 seconds remaining. The two teams played to a 12-12 draw in the first overtime before Frankling Regional outscored Monessen, 14-7, in the second to secure the win.
Summers had 24 points, Hunter Stonecheck had a team-high 26, Simon Behr chipped in 20 and Andrew Mastovich finished with 19 points. Justice Rice had 19 points, Dwight Moore added 21 and Jaden Altomore finished with 23 for the Greyhounds, who 88 points per game against four Quad-A opponents.
Burgettstown 76, Jefferson-Morgan 35: Burgettstown used a huge first half to roll past visiting Jefferson-Morgan 76-35 in a non-section game.
Ten of the 11 Burgettstown players scored in the first half, which ended with the Blue Devils (1-3) leading 57-18. Burgettstown scored 27 points in the first quarter and 30 in the second.
Max Shaw led four Burgettstown players in double figures with 18 points. Scott Ferns followed with 14 points, and Brad McLaughlin and Ryan Lounder each scored 10.
Jefferson-Morgan (0-3) was led by D.L. Garrett’s 17 points.
West Greene 59, Hundred (W.Va.) 48: Less than 24 hours after seeing one of its top scorers leave the court on a stretcher, West Greene had three players score in double figures on its way to a 59-48 win over Hundred, W.Va., in a non-section match.
Craig Weaver had a team-high 18 points, Nathan Brudock had 17 and Andrew King chipped in 14 for the Pioneers (2-1), who led five points at halftime and pulled away with a strong second half. Danny Stewart scored a game-high 26 points for Hundred.
West Greene junior forward Kolton Rush left the Pioneer’s game Tuesday night – a loss to Waynesburg – after a collision late in the second quarter.
Brownsville 71, California 34: Noah Brown scored 25 points to lead undefeated Brownsville to a 71-34 non-section win over Brownsville.
Kas Taylor scored 15 points for California (2-1), which was outscored 48-18 over the middle two quarters.
Bentworth 36, Springdale 30: Bentworth held visiting Springdale to one point in the first quarter and used a blanced scoring attack to defeat the Dynamos 36-30 in a non-section game Tuesday night.
Heather Chester led Bentworth (2-1) with nine points. The Bearcats led 6-1 after one quarter and 22-13 by halftime.
Patience Ashdlou paced Springdale (0-3) with 18 points.
