Boys basketball: Rush’s 1,000th helps Monessen slip past North Catholic

Monessen guard Lavalle Rush scored a game-high 24 points, including his 1,000th career point, as Monessen held off North Catholic 75-72 Wednesday night in a non-section game on the Greyhounds’ court.

Rush needed 19 points to reach 1,000 and he reach the mark by making a three-pointer in the fourth quarter. Monessen (4-2) had 11 three-pointers in the game, including three by Rush.

Jaden Altomore had 23 points, including a team-high four three-pointers, for Monessen. Dwight Moore scored 14 points, including two clutch free throws late in the game, and Justice Rice had 11 points.

Kenny Fukon paced North Catholic (0-5) with 21 points. The Trojans have lost their last two games by a combined six points.

Clairton 89, Jefferson-Morgan 33: Aaron Mathews scored a game-high 19 points and Clairton ran away with a 89-33 win over Jefferson-Morgan in a non-section game.

Uri Meyers added 17 points and for the Bears (1-0), who led 58-18 at halftime and had 12 different players score. The Rockets (0-6) were led by D.L. Garrett’s six points.
