Boys basketball: Moon makes 15 3-pointers, edges Canon-McMillan in OT

Jared Smith scored five of Moon’s 12 points in overtime Thursday night as the Tigers defeated visiting Canon-McMillan, 78-74, in a Section 4-AAAA game.
Billy Lewis had 17 points, Nick Castelbeter 14, Jared Smith and Jianni Smith 12 each and Max Hurley 10 for Moon (1-2, 3-3), which made 15 three-pointers.
Britton Beachy had 27 points, R.J. Bell 19 and Jordan Smith 16 for the Big Macs (0-3, 3-3), who made only eight of 15 free throws.
California 78, Geibel Catholic 48: Kass Taylor had 30 points and California jumped out to a 20-6 lead en route to a 78-48 Section 3-A victory over Geibel Catholic.
JayCee Conaway chipped in 14 points and Ben Wilson had 10 for the Trojans (3-0, 5-1).
Caleb Miller had 17 points and Bailey Miller added 16 for Geibel (1-2, 2-3).
McGuffey 68, Jefferson-Morgan 25: McGuffey held visiting Jefferson-Morgan to six points in the first half and cruised to a 68-25 victory in a non-section contest.
Shaun Sanders led a balanced scoring attack for McGuffey (3-2) with 15 points. The Highlanders, who led 44-6 at halftime, had three players score in double figures. Nick Haynes and Chase Miller each contributed 10 points.
Jefferson-Morgan (0-7), which was playing its third game in as many nights, received eight points from D.L. Garrett.
