Third-quarter problems cost W&J women win
A 23-11 run in the third quarter broke open a close game and sent LaRoche to a 72-61 victory over Washington & Jefferson College Sunday in a nonconference game.
The loss is only the second of the season, bringing a seven-game win streak to a close for W&J. LaRoche moved to 8-2.
Beka Bellhy led W&J with a double-double, putting up a team-high 19 points and pulling down a team-high 10 rebounds. Taylor Cortazzo had 16 points in the game and handed out five assists. Danni Medovich had five helpers and posted nine points.
Mackenzie O’Donnell finished with a season-high 25 points to go with eight rebounds and five blocks for LaRoche. Sabrina McLin had 20 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals and TiChina Mitchell scored 15 points.
W&J led at halftime, 29-27, but the Redhawks opened a 50-40 lead after three quarters. Mitchell scored seven of her 15 points in the quarter. W&J got no closer than seven points in the fourth quarter.
