Metheny hired as Wild Things’ hitting coach

The Washington Wild Things announced Monday that Brent Metheny has been hired as hitting coach for the 2015 Frontier League season.
Metheny, who has been in professional baseball for 13 seasons, is a former player and manager in the Frontier League. A native of Moorefield, W.Va., Metheny played for the Mid-Missouri Mavericks in 2004 and ’05, and was the manager of the Frontier Greys, the league’s travel team, in 2013. He guided the Greys to a 33-62 record.
Last year, Metheny was the hitting coach for the Sioux City Explorers of the independent American Association.
Metheny played his college baseball at James Madison signed in 2003 as a free agent with the Seattle Mariners. He advanced to the Class A level while in the Mariners’ system before being released and spending two years as a player in the Frontier League. He was signed in 2006 by the Chicago White Sox and played Class A ball in their organization before playing the next five years in independent leagues.
“We are very excited to have Brent join our experienced coaching staff this season,” Wild Things manager Bob Bozzuto said. “He has previously coached in the Frontier League and has built a good rapport with the players. His coaching experience, along with time as a player, will help develop our team into one of the top offenses in the league.”
