Saegertown eliminates South Fayette

Saegertown won nine of the first 11 bouts to blow out South Fayette, 40-12, in a preliminary-round match in the PIAA Class AA Wrestling Team Tournament Monday in Saegertown.

The win moved Saegertown, the District 10 runner-up to Reynolds, into the first round against Wyalusing Valley Thursday at the Giant Center in Hershey.

While the match was lopsided, it did produce two interesting bouts.

South Fayette’s Mike Carr, a fifth-place finisher in the state tournament last season, decisioned Saegertown’s Tyler Vath 3-2 at 138 pounds.

Saegertown’s Cody Mulligan handed South Fayette’s Jared Walker, a state runner-up last season at 160, his third loss of the season, 3-2.

Jared Ruhl (120) had a pin for Saegertown.
