Ferrari’s 20 points helps Chartiers-Houston to key win

Alec Ferrari had 20 points to help Chartiers-Houston inched closer to securing the final playoff spot in Section 3-AA with a 50-32 victory Tuesday night in a high school boys basketball game.

The Bucs (6-7, 11-10) jumped out to a 16-7 first quarter lead as they moved a game ahead of Burgettstown, a 54-53 loser to Bishop Canevin, with one section game remaining for each.

Mark Wells led Brentwood (3-10, 4-14) with 14 points.

Washington 68, Carlynton 28: Nathan Swart had 14 points and Washington jumped out to a 43-13 halftime lead en route to a 68-28 Section 3-AA victory over Carlynton.

Markel Pulliam added 13 points and Matt Popeck 11 for the Prexies (11-2, 13-6), who have now won nine games in a row.

Carlynton fell to 1-12 and 6-15.

Upper St. Clair 45, Peters Township 43: Marcus McGinnis connected on a layup with 3.1 seconds remaining in the game as Upper St. Clair held off upset-minded Peters Township, 45-43, in a Section 4-AAAA game.

Dom Wagner scored 13 points, Zach Cherup 11 and McGinnis 10 for Upper St. Clair (8-4, 15-5).

Tim Swoope led Peters Township (3-9, 8-11) with 12 points.

Brownsville 64, Beth-Center 53: Noah Brown’s 27 points led Brownsville to a 64-53 Section 4-AA win over Beth-Center.

Andre Smith added 20 poiints for Brownsville (9-2, 15-5), which remained in contention for at least a share of the section lead with Charleroi (10-2, 12-8).

Ryan Beyer led Beth-Center (2-8, 9-10) with 16 points.

Monessen 89, Mapletown 24: Monessen jumped out to a 61-11 halftime lead and defeated Mapletown, 89-24, in a Section 3-A game.

Noah Rullo scored 19 points, Lavalle Rush and Dwight Moore 14 each and Brandon Lenhart 11 for the Greyhounds (11-0, 15-6).

Adam Hein paced the Maples (1-10, 2-19) with 11 points.

South Fayette 63, McGuffey 21: Jack Relihan scored a game-high 21 points to help South Fayette top McGuffey 63-21 in a Section 5-AAA game.

Jake Thomas contributed 12 points for the Lions (11-0, 16-2).

Shaun Sanders paced McGuffey (2-9, 6-13) with seven points.

West Mifflin 68, Ringgold 58: West Mifflin sand 12 three-point field goal to roll past Ringgold, 68-58, in a Section 4-AAA game.

Josh Long had six threes and 24 points and Ken-Rouse Strothers for West Mifflin (12-1, 18-2), which led 39-26 at halftime.

Dakota Browning paced Ringgold (3-10, 7-13) with 15 points and Anthony Pampena added 14.

Bishop Canevin 54, Burgettstown 53: John Weldon hit a turnaround jumper with 4.2 seconds remaining to send Bishop Canevin to a 54-53 victory over Burgettstown in a Section 3-AA game.

Weldon had 10 points for the Crusaders (11-2, 17-4), who trailed by eight going into the fourth quarter. Mitchell King finished with a game-high 24 points and Walter Bonds also scored 10.

Hunter Lecker sparked Burgettstown (5-8, 8-12) with 14 points, Dylan Dhans had 12 and Logan Triebsch 11.

Charleroi 71, Bentworth 29: Sam Miceli scored a game-high 22 points at Charleroi swept past Bentworth, 71-29, in a Section 4-AA game.

Brock Shannon chipped in with 13 points for the Cougars (10-2, 12-8), who led 41-15 at halftime.

Angelo Rio-Lopez led the Bearcats (2-9, 6-15) with 15 points.

Montour 48, Trinity 42: Sam Colliers and K.J. Rhodes combined for 23 points to power Montour to a 48-42 win over Trinity in a Section 5-AAA game.

Colliers led the way with 13 points for the Spartans (7-4, 9-11) and Rhodes chipped in with 10.

Joe Koroly led the Hillers (4-7, 7-12), who trailed 27-16 at halftime, with 13 points.

Bethel Park 77, Canon-McMillan 65: Bethel Park sank 11 three-point field goals on the way to a 77-65 victory over Canon-McMillan in a Section 4-AAAA game.

Josh Duda scored 20 points, 18 on three-point tries, for BP (9-3, 13-6), which led 44-33 at halftime. Joe Mascaro had 16 points, Jake Dixon 12 and Levi Metheny 11.

Sam Bohn matched Duda with 20 points and Britton Beachy tossed in 19 for the Big Macs (4-9, 9-12).

Geibel 69, Avella 44: James Ewing scored 21 points to help Geibel take a 69-44 victory over Avella in a Section 3-A game.

Bailey Miller contributed 20 points for the Gators (6-5, 9-9).

Cody Dobbin threw in 14 points for the Eagles (1-10, 1-20) and Steve Miller had 13.

California 70, Waynesburg 47: Tray Mathews scored a game-high 26 points to propel California to a 70-47 victory over Waynesburg in a non-section game.

Cal (16-4) also got 15 points from Kass Taylor. Dom Sarra contributed 21 points and Mitch Warman added 10 for the Raiders (13-7).

Seton-La Salle 74, Fort Cherry 36: Ryan Norkus tossed in a game-high 29 points to help Seton-La Salle rolled by Fort Cherry, 74-36 in a Section 3-AA game.

Bill O’Malley and Adam Turzak each scored 10 for the Rebels (12-1, 19-2).

Rob McAnany led the Rangers (3-10, 4-16) with 10 points.

Girls results

Monessen 38, Mapletown 33: Teraee Bradford scored 12 points as Monessen held off Mapletown, 38-33, in a Section 3-A game.

Cara Grogan added 10 points for Monessen (6-7, 8-12).

Rachel Buchtan led Mapletown (3-10, 5-16), which made just one of eight free throws, with eight points.

Jefferson-Morgan 54, West Greene 23: Erin Confortini scored 13 points and Jamie Lawrence added 12 as Jefferson Morgan defeated West Greene, 54-23, in a Section 3-A game.

The Rockets (11-2, 17-2) led 18-6 after one quarter and 34-11 at the half.

Sarah Courtwright led West Greene (0-12, 0-20) with nine points.
