Rebellion add Dutch National Team infielder
The Rebellion have signed Dutch National Team infielder and three-time European Champion, Virginie Anneveld, for this season.
Anneveld was a third baseman for the past six years under new Rebellion manager and current Netherlands National coach Craig Montvidas. Anneveld has been playing softball for 21 years and has appeared in 74 games with the Dutch National Team.
“It has been my pleasure to have had the opportunity of coaching Virginie the past six seasons with the Netherlands National Team. Besides being a great young lady, she is a very talented softball player as well. Virginie is a very solid third baseman with exceptional defensive skills,” Montvidas said. “Offensively, she is a contact hitter who thrives under pressure situations. Virginie is an excellent role model for the youth, and I’m sure the Rebellion fans will embrace her as one of their own.”
The native of the Netherlands was selected to the Dutch National Team in 2009. Before that, she spent a good portion of her career in the Dutch Major Leagues, where she still plays. She has won four Hoofdklasse titles in the Netherlands and made her softball debut at the age of 15.
Among her many honors, Anneveld was given the Best Hitter Award of the 2012 Dutch Major League, was named MVP of the 2011 European Championship, and was given the Egbert van der Sluis Memorial Award in 2010 which recognizes the best national team Player under 23.
