Wild Things sign 3

2 min read

The Washington Wild Things have signed three players, including one with professional experience, for the 2015 season.

Signed were second baseman Daniel Massey and pitchers Jeremy Holcombe and Cory Jordan.

Holcombe is a rookie out of Faulkner University, an NAIA school in Montgomery, Ala. A right-hander, Holcombe had a 14-4 record over his final two seasons at Faulkner, including a 10-4 mark with a 2.51 ERA last spring. He struck out 89 batters in 104 innings as a senior and batters hit only .207 against Holcombe.

Jordan, a 6-5 native of Bellaire, Texas, played college baseball at Grambling State and was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 35th round in 2013. He played for Hudson Valley of the short-season New York-Penn league in 2013, posting a 1-3 record and 4.00 ERA in 18 relief appearances. Jordan struck out 26 batters in 27 innings.

Jordan is the brother of DeAndre Jordan, the starting center for the NBA’s Los Angeles Clippers.

Massey is a graduate of Brown University in the Ivy League. He was honorable mention all-conference as a senior last year, when he batted .296 with team highs of nine doubles and six home runs. Massey, a left-handed hitter, batted .303 as a junior. Massey was an outfielder at Brown but the Wild Things will try him at second base during spring training.

Massey is the second Ivy League player ever signed by the Wild Things.
