1 min read

The Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, will make the first weekend in August a celebration of the Steelers.

The NFL announced Wednesday the Steelers will play the Minnesota Vikings Aug. 9 to kick off the preseason as part of the festivities for the Hall of Fame weekend in Canton.

The game will begin at 8 p.m. and be televised by NBC.

The game will follow the induction of the eight-member 2015 Hall of Fame Class, which includes former Steelers running back Jerome Bettis.

That ceremony will take place Saturday, Aug. 8.

This will mark the Steelers’ sixth appearance in the Hall of Fame Game and first since 2007, when they played the New Orleans Saints in head coach Mike Tomlin’s first game.

It also will give the Steelers a total of five preseason games this year.

With the announcement of the Steelers’ first preseason game, the opening date of the team’s training camp at Saint Vincent College also was set.

The Steelers can report to Saint Vincent College the weekend of July 25.
