Martin keys Ringgold’s second-half surge for win
George Martin scored eight of his game-high 17 points in the third quarter to lead Ringgold over Belle Vernon, 54-50, in Section 4-AAA Monday night.
Ringgold (2-3, 5-5) scored 24 points in the third quarter to turn a five-point deficit into an eight-point lead, 43-35. Nico Law and Ethan Defide each had 12 points.
Tom Rodriguez scored 16 and Travis Snyder had 11 points for the Leopards (0-5, 4-6), who had 10 three-point field goals.
Fort Cherry 62, Carlynton 47: A 14-4 run in the second quarter paced Fort Cherry to a 62-47 victory over Carlynton in a Section 3-AA game.
Rob McAnany led the Rangers (2-2, 3-8) with 19 points. Phil Baker tossed in 14 and Devon Brown 11.
Tarik Isak led all scorers with 22 points for Carlynton (0-5, 4-7).
South Fayette 55, Montour 30: Senior guard Jack Relihan scored a game-high 23 points to lift South Fayette over Montour, 55-23, in a Section 5-AAA game.
Relihan made 10 field goals, including one three-pointer. Senior forward Brett Brumbaugh chipped in 11 points and 12 rebounds for the Lions (4-0, 7-1), who trailed by one point after the first quarter, but outscored Montour, 30-14, over the next 16 minutes.
The Spartans are 2-2 in Section 5-AAA and 3-8 overall.
West Allegheny 74, Trinity 55: Trinity could not overcome a slow start and allowed three opposing players to score at least 15 points as the Hillers lost, 74-55, to West Allegheny in a Section 5-AAA game.
Senior Andrew Koester scored a game-high 19 points for the Indians, while Tyler Duffett had 16 and Sean Orsini added 15. West Allegheny outscored Trinity, 16-5, in the first quarter before the Hillers climbed to within six points at halftime.
West Allegheny (3-2, 5-5) sealed the victory with a 24-point fourth quarter and sank 13 of 17 free throws.
Freshman Joey Koroly had 21 points for Trinity (1-3, 4-7).
Mt. Lebanon 50, Canon-McMillan 31: Matt Hoffman and Mark Lamendola combined for 25 points to lead Mt. Lebanon over Canon-McMillan, 50-31, in a Section 4-AAAA game.
Hoffman scored a game-high 15 points and Lamendola added 10 for the Blue Devils (4-0, 9-3), who outscored the Big Macs, 17-2, in the third quarter.
Canon-McMillan (1-2, 6-5) only attempted one free throw and 15 of its points came from three-pointers. Sam Bohn led the Big Macs with 10 points.
Chartiers Valley 73, Peters Township 44: Chartiers Valley made 11 three-point field goals on its way to a 73-44 victory over Peters Township in a Section 4-AAAA game.
Senior guard Matty McConnell had a game-high 26 points and Jake Ritson, who made eight three-pointers, added 24 for the Colts (3-1, 8-2). Chartiers Valley scored 41 points in the first half and held off the Indians in the final 16 minutes.
Mike Cortese had 10 points for Peters Township (1-3, 5-5).
Bentworth 67, Avella 53: Damon Petrola-Bakos scored a career-high 38 points to lift Bentworth over Avella, 67-53, in a non-section game.
The Bearcats (4-7) led by two points at halftime before increasing its lead to 10 following the third quarter. Bentworth made 18 of 28 free throws to seal the win.
Cody Dobbin led the Eagles (1-11) with 21 points.
Seton-La Salle 78, Burgettstown 50: Seton-La Salle clamped down defensively and had three double-digit scorers in a 78-50 victory over Burgettstown in a Section 3-AA game.
Paris Ford and Christian Del Greco each had 16 points, while Helton Cletus added 13 for the Rebels (5-0, 9-1). Seton-La Salle outscored the Blue Devils, 45-25, in the first eight minutes.
Hunter Lecker, Dylan Dhans and Bailey Soplinski had 10 points apiece for Burgettstown (2-3, 5-7).
