Trinity’s West gets 100th win
Robert West has joined an elite group of Trinity High School wrestlers with 100 career victories.
West, Trinity talented 200-pounder, notched his 100th victory Wednesday night and wasted no time. West pinned his opponent in only 26 seconds late in the Hillers 54-24 victory over Moon in a Class AAA Section 4-A match.
West’s victory was one of eight pins by Trinity. Evan Parkinson (106) started the match with a fall and the Hillers pulled away when Tony Stedman (126), Ryan Yocum (132), Devin Kelley (138) and Cameron Renolds strung together consecutive falls, with Yocum and Kelley getting first-period pins.
The Hillers’ Justin Ritter (170) and Austin Fife (heavyweight) also won by fall.
Trinity will host Waynesburg tonight in a match rescheduled from last week.
Peters Township 33, Bethel Park 31: Bethel Park won the first three bouts, but Peters Township rallied to take eight of the next 11 bouts to secure a 33-31 victory in a Section 2-B dual meetin Class AAA.
Victories by Noah Seeberger (145), Dean Bonaccorsi (152) and Paul Dunn (160) gave the Black Hawks an 18-0 lead, but the Indians quickly tied it with three consecutive wins. Bethel Park retook the lead with back-to-back pins before the Indians tied the meet, Bethel regained the lead with a major decisino by Korey Patterson (120), but three consecutive victories by AJ Buckiso (126), Luke Mary (132) and Phil Mary (138) won the meet for Peters Township.
McGuffey 81, Mapletown 0: McGuffey got five points on the way to a 81-0 win over Mapletown in a Section 2-A dual meet in a Class AA.
Getting pins for the Highlanders were Teague Nicolella (120), Aaron Harris (132), Jeff McConn (145), Dillon Richey (152) and Ryan Stienstraw (Hvy). Luke Desmond (138) also won by decision and McGuffey won the eight other bouts by forfeit.
Beth-Center 50, Bentworth 26: Beth-Center used two pins, a technical fall and a five forfeits – in a stretch of six weight classes – to defeat Bentworth, 50-26.
B-C’s Jason Stay (160) and Johnny Little (182) had pins around a technical fall by Anthony Welch (170). Following Little’s fall, the Bulldogs received the string of forfeits.
Chad Gurdish (126), Hunter Neely (132) and Ty Mitchell (138) had consecutive pins for Bentworth, which also received a technical fall from Manny Doushek (113).
Chartiers-Houston 45, Avella 30: Chartiers-Houston won eight of 14 bouts to defeat Avella, 45-30, in a Section 1-A dual meet in Class AA.
Ben Hritsko (138) and Trey Lober (Hvy) got pins for the Bucs (3-0), who won five bouts by forfeit. RJ Hall (145) also won by decision for Chartiers-Houston.
Nick Kusich (152), Luke Lloyd (132) and Dean Simonelli (195) won by decision for Avella. Jared Graham (220) had the Eagles’ only pin.
South Park 39, Washington 27: South Park won the final four bouts to defeat Washington, 39-27, in a Section 1-A dual meet in Class AA.
Washington (1-3) grabbed the lead early when Keirs Gloady (Hvy) won by decision and Anthony Gardner (120) got a pin. The Eagles (1-3) answered by winning six of the next 10 bouts to secure the win.
Dallas Bulsak (132), Greg Bulsak (182) and John Funaiork (220) got pins for South Park, while Matt Blackburn (170) won by decision.
Burgettstown 73, Central Valley 6:
Burgettstown 48, Freedom 26: Burgettstown defeated Central Valley and Freedom in a Section 1-B tri-meet in Class AA.
PJ Smith (106),Austin McDermitt (120), Austin Riffle (126), Evan Pethel (138), Jake McKee (170), Tristan Nicholson (182), Brad Hucik (195) and Jim Reedy (Hvy) got multiple wins for the Blue Devils (5-0).
Burgettstown won 13 of 14 bouts against Central Valley, including pins by Darrell Bails (132), Pethel, Tyler Nicholson (160), Tristan Nicholson and Reedy. Against Freedom, the Blue Devils got six pins from Smith, McDermitt, Riffle, Pethel, McKee and Hucik.
South Fayette 60, Fort Cherry 12: South Fayette got five pints on its way to a 60-15 victory over Fort Cherry in a Section 1-A dual meet in Class AA.
Mike Carr (138), Scott Rzepecki (145), Ben Previte (145), Brett Beltz (170) and Rasaun Culberson (195) got pins for the Lions (2-0, 11-1). Also, Jasper Wolfe (126) won by technical fall and Alec Fraser (132) by major decision.
Trevor McIntyre (Hvy), Nick Candelone (106) and Hunter Fry (113) won bouts for the Rangers.
