Wash High, Trinity girls get wins

Tajah Gordon had a double-double to help Washington knock off Beth-Center, 50-36, Thursday night in a Section 4-AA game.

The win keeps Wash High one-half game behind Charleroi for first place in the section.

Gordon had 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Prexies (4-1, 7-4), who led 24-17 at halftime. Mikala Maltoni poured in 12 points.

Kinlee Whited scored a game-high 20 points and Anna Bartman chipped in with 11 for Beth-Center (3-2, 5-3).

Trinity 72, Montour 33: Mary Dunn scored 29 points and Trinity raced out to a 44-19 halftime lead en route to a 72-33 Section 5-AAA win over Montour.

Sierra Kotchman added 19 points for the Hillers (4-1, 9-1).

Amalia Esposito led Montour (1-4, 4-6) with 16 points.

California 30, Fort Cherry 19: Lyndsey Huhn scored nine points as California remained unbeaten in Section 3-A with a 30-19 win over defensive-minded Fort Cherry.

California (6-0, 12-1) led just 13-11 at the half, but went on a 12-4 run in the third quarter to pull away.

Hannah Greene led Fort Cherry (3-3, 3-8) with seven points.

Seton-La Salle 66, Chartiers-Houston 50: Nicollete Newman scored 22 points as Seton-La Salle held off upset-minded Chartiers-Houston, 66-50, in a Section 3-AA game.

The Bucs (3-2, 8-4) trailed 28-21 at the half and cut the lead to four points in the third quarter, but Seton-La Salle (5-0, 8-5) ended up outscoring Char-Houston, 23-13, in the quarter to pull away.

Shauney Edmonds added 13 points and Madlena Psillidis had 11 in the winning effort.

Alexa Williamson led all scorers with 28 points for Char-Houston.

Bethel Park 48, Canon-Mac 32: Junior guard Shannon Conely scored 22 points and Bethel park won its fifth conwsecutive game, 48-32, over injury depleted Canon-McMillan in Section 4-AAAA.

Bethel Park (4-2, 8-4) held Canon-Mac to only 11 first-half points. Senior Kaitlin Chess added 13 for the Black Hawks.

Canon-McMillan (3-3, 8-4) received 18 points from Danielle Parker. The Big Macs, who were only 9-for-21 at the free-throw line, played without two starters who are sidelined with injuries.

Charleroi 50, Bentworth 34: Section 4-AA leader Charleroi received a game-high 21 points from freshman Sierra Short and defeated host Bentworth, 50-34.

Bentworth (2-3, 6-5) led after one quarter and trailed by only 23-19 at halftime, but the Bearcats committed too many turnovers to fuel a second-half comeback.

Kaitlyn Riley scored 16 points for Charleroi (5-1, 9-4), which was playing its third game of the week.

Heather Chester led Bentworth’s attack with 15 points.

Charleroi 69, Brownsville 51: Sam Miceli scored a team-high 28 points, 14 of them from the free-throw line, as Charleroi knocked off Brownsville, 69-51, in a Section 4-AA game.

Brock Shannon added 10 points for the Cougars (5-0, 6-5), who led 34-20 at halftime.

Noah Brown sank 15 of his 30 points from the free-throw line for Brownsville (3-1, 7-4).

In other games: Upper St. Clair defeated Peters Township 60-47 in a Section 4-AAAA girls game, and Brentwood defeated visiting Burgettstown 45-25 in Section 3-AA. No details were made available to the Observer-Reporter.
