Chartiers-Houston holds off Brentwood

A.J. Myers scored eight of his 21 points in the fourth quarter as Chartiers-Houston upended Brentwood, 47-41, in a Section 3-AA high school boys basketball game Friday night.

The game was tied at 31 entering the fourth quarter but the Bucs (2-4, 6-7) used a 12-0 run to grab the lead for good.

Alec Ferrari added 16 points for Chartiers-Houston, which moved into a four-way tie for fourth place in the second with Burgettstown, Brentwood and Fort Cherry with the win.

Troy Elphinstone led Brentwood (2-4, 3-8) with 10 points.

Washington 82, Carlynton 25: Three Washington players scored in double figures and the Prexies allowed just nine field goals in a 82-25 rout of Carlynton in a Section 3-AA game.

Nate Swart led Wash High with 16 points, while DeQuay Isbell added 13 and Matt Popeck finished with 11. The Prexies (4-2, 6-6) outscored the Cougars, 49-15, in the first half before holding them to 10 points in the final 16 minutes.

Carlynton (0-6, 4-8) was led by Nick Schultz’s seven points.

Frazier 54, Carmichaels 32: Carmichaels could not overcome a slow start in a 54-32 loss to Frazier in a Section 4-AA game.

Mark Dillon scored a team-high 14 points for the Commodores (3-2, 6-5). Alivn Ross added 13, Caleb Cox had 12 and Damon Louis finished with 10. Frazier held Carmichaels to 12 first-half points before outscoring the Mikes, 17-9, in the third quarter to pull away.

Liam Shea led Carmichaels (0-4, 3-8) with 16 points.

Montour 47, Trinity 37: Trinity led by three points at halftime, but only scored 10 second-half points in a 47-37 loss to Montour in a Section 5-AAA game.

K.J. Rhodes scored a game-high 15 points, including three three-pointers, and Caleb Bryan added 10 points for Montour (3-2, 4-8). The Spartans trailed, 27-24, at halftime before outscoring the Hillers by 13 points in the second half to earn the win.

Nick Moretti had 13 points for Trinity (1-4, 4-8).

South Fayette 61, McGuffey 40: Jack Relihan and Brett Brumbaugh combined for 38 points to lead South Fayette to a 61-40 win over McGuffey in a Section 5-AAA game.

Relihan scored game-high 20 points and Brumbaugh added 18 for the Lions (5-0, 8-1), who have not lost to a Class AAA opponent this season. South Fayette led 44-20 at halftime and held off McGuffey in the second half.

Shaun Sanders had 13 points for McGuffey (2-3, 6-6).

Bishop Canevin 68, Burgettstown 66: Burgettstown rallied from a 17-point deficit to take a fourth-quarter lead, but fell short in a 68-66 loss to Bishop Canevin in a Section 3-AA game.

The Blue Devils (2-4, 5-8) trailed by 13 points at halftime and 17 points in the third quarter before storming back to take the lead, but Bishop Canevin, led by Mitchell King’s eight second-half points, held on for the win.

Burgettstown’s Hunter Lecker scored 18 of his game-high 21 points in the second half and Dylan Dhans added 12 points. John Weldan scored 20 points for Bishop Canevin (6-0, 11-2).

Upper St. Clair 53, Peters Township 36: Andrew Wheeler and Zack Pateras both scored 12 points to lift Upper St. Clair over Peters Township, 53-36, in a Section 4-AAAA game.

The Panthers (4-1, 10-2) led 25-15 at halftime before holding the Indians to six third-quarter points. Peters Township (1-4, 5-6) made just 10 field goals.

Rylan Faloni had 11 points for the Indians.

Bentworth 66, Charleroi 56: Benworth sank 13 of its 25 free throws in the fourth quarter and Damon Petrola-Bakos scored a game-high 27 points as the Bearcats defeated Charleroi, 66-56, in a Section 4-AA game.

The loss is the Cougars’ first in section play. Bentworth (2-3, 5-7) trailed by four points at the end of the third quarter before outscoring Charleroi, 25-11, in the fourth quarter behind strong free-throw shooting. Charleroi (5-1, 6-6) had four players foul out as Bentworth attempted 45 free throws. Angelo Rios-Lopez added 17 points for Bentworth and T.J Kurutz scored seven points with 15 rebounds, 11 on the defensive end.

John Arnold led the Cougars with 13 points.

Jefferson-Morgan 45, West Greene 41: Rece Henneman scored 24 points and Jefferson-Morgan finished the game on a 12-8 run to defeat West Greene, 45-41, in a Section 3-A game.

The game was tied at 33-33 after three quarters before Rockets (2-2, 7-3) pulled away midway through the final quarter.

Craig Weaver and Bray Jackson scored 13 points each for West Greene (1-3, 3-9).

Seton-La Salle 85, Fort Cherry 42: Cletus Helton scored a game-high 21 points and Seton-La Salle outdistanced Fort Cherry, 85-42, in a Section 3-AA game.

Harris Ford and William O’Malley scored 14 each, while Christian DelGreco added 12 points for Seton-La Salle (6-0, 11-1).

Rob McAnany scored 13 points and Alex Babirad had 11 for Fort Cherry (2-4, 3-9).

West Mifflin 69, Ringgold 47: Josh Long had 15 points and West Mifflin connected on 11 three-pointers in a 69-47 Section 4-AAA win over Ringgold.

Antonio Hill and Ken Rouse-Strothers had 11 points each for West Mifflin (5-1, 9-2), which jumped out to a 29-17 halftime lead and never looked back.

Nico Law led Ringgold (2-4, 5-6) with 12 points.

Monessen 84, Mapletown 10: Monessen jumped out to a 45-point halftime lead and held on for a 84-10 victory in a Section 3-A game.

Justice Rice had a triple-double for the Greyhounds with 11 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Lavalle Rush scored a game-high 20 points and Dwight Moore added 16 for Monessen (4-0, 7-5), which led 52-7 at halftime and shutout Mapletown (0-4, 0-12) in the fourth quarter. The Greyhounds made 12 three-point field goals.

Matt Hein had six points for the Maples.
